Kehinde Wiley Portrait of Santigold On New Album Cover

Take a look at this cover art for Santigold’s new album Master of My Make-Believe set to be released on May 1st. Along with her photographed conceptually as a Bond-girl and mafia Don, you can also see her painted as an army officer in the background by Kehinde Wiley. Video Release Party: Mark Whalen & Autolux @ Launch LA

During the weekend, Launch LA hosted a music video release party that featured an incredible collaboration by artist Mark Whalen and the music group Autolux. Directed by Thomas McMahan, the music video, which was shown on a large screen through out the night, features Whalen’s work come to life accentuated by a great song performed by the band. Videos: Tim Biskup for Mastodon’s “Dry Bone Valley” Music Video

Continuing to show an appreciation for a genre of art that AM also appreciates, Mastodon recently released their Tim Biskup (featured) directed Dry Bone Valley music video from their album The Hunter (which featured cover design from A.J. Fosik). The video which premiered on Boing Boing, also featured animation and the signature pixelated creatures from the LA-based artist. Discuss Tim Biskup here.

Openings: “Obey Your Master: A Metallica Tribute” @ Exhibit A

Last Friday, Exhibit A opened up its gallery doors to a multitude of artists all paying tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica. Titled Obey Your Master, the exhibit featured artists such as Shepard Fairey, Travis Louie, David Stoupakis, Nicola Verlato, Brian Viveros, and Richard Villa III just to name a few. Remember when renowned photographer JR (featured) recently returned to his home country of France for a solo exhibition entitled Encrages at Galerie Perrotin. The fresh show took over the spacious two story Paris gallery as well as utilized the ample outdoor area with his signature large-scale wheatpasting. Openings: JR – “Encrages” @ Galerie Perrotin

Last week, Galerie Perrotin paid host to French photographer and street artist JR in their Paris showspace when he displayed a new body of work entitled Encrages. Video: Raymond Pettibon x Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Monarchy of Roses” Music Video

Two legends of the Los Angeles music and art scene: the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Raymond Pettibon (who is a musician in his own right and the brother of Greg Ginn – the founder of Black Flag) come together in this music video made on occasion of the band’s new record. Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the video features the artist’s highly recognizable drawings.  If you’ve ever wondered how Pettibon’s work would look animated, stop imagining and start watching.
