Preview: Naoto Hattori – “Mind Project” @ Copro Gallery

Coming up next week in Los Angeles, a unique opportunity exists for the fans of surrealist Naoto Hattori – he actually plans to attend the opening of his show Mind Project. For years, collectors have marveled at the psychedelic and hyper-detailed paintings of the Japanese artist, but have never had the chance to meet the man himself and pick the mind to see what is behind his incredible imagination. The time has now come, head over to Copro Gallery in Santa Monica on May 19th [...]

Update: Naoto Hattori

As a headsup to his fans out there, Naoto Hattori has been uploading these little image montages of his creative process onto his facebook page. The scans show some of the steps in the Japanese artist’s time-consuming technique that he uses to paint his surreal imagery. And for those living on the two US coasts, you’ll have a chance soon to check out Hattori’s detailed paintings in person. He will be part of the Suggestivism show in New York at Bold Hype as well as [...]

Openings: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the “Love Conquers All” show in Culver City at the Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition’s concept was based on the struggle of the gay community for equality with part of the proceeds were donated to Equality California. Things don’t always turn out well for themed group shows, but this time, many of the artists were able to maintain their signature imagery yet at the same time subtly produce relevant works. More images from the opening after the jump…
