On a recent road trip to the Bay Area, AM took the opportunity to visit the studio of Brendan Monroe (interviewed) that he shares with Evah Fan. Although Brendan was only in the early stages of preparing for his next solo show at Richard Heller Gallery, there were still many items of interest to discuss and see. Brendan walked us through his woodworking area, showed us various in-progress sculptures, enlightened us a little about his mixed-media technique and even showed us their vegetable garden. Surrounded by the […]

Preview/Interviews: Sam Flores – “Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories” @ Subliminal Projects

We had an inkling this would be a strong show from Sam Flores when AM first hooked up last month for a creative process article for his upcoming show.  As we saw more images leaked from his show entitled “Ego, Addiction, and Other Bedtime Stories,” opening this Saturday, May 2nd at Subliminal Projects, we became more and more excited about this body of work. Todd Schorr’s show, “The World We Live In,” is fast approaching, set to open this Saturday, March 28th at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. Seen above is Schorr in his studio, holding up one of the smaller paintings for the show. As we have seen from this body of work so far, some of the show looks to be an outgrowth from the large “Ape Worship” painting that was part of the “Land of Retinal Delights” exhibit at the Laguna Art Museum. After completing […]
