Streets: Flying Fortress x Nychos (Detroit)

It looks like the Detroit Beautification Project is still rolling along with this newest mural, a collaboration between Flying Fortress and Nychos. If you remember, the Germany and Vienna-based artists (respectively) have hooked up before (Dublin & Vienna) for a synergistic brand of imagery. Openings: Prune Nourry – “Holy River” @ The Invisible Dog

Last month, Prune Nourry premiered her solo exhibition Holy River at The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn. The packed opening night showcased the talents of Ms. Nourry with her unique style of mixing traditional mediums such as photography, sculpture, and installation in addition to her creative use of video (seen here) and performance art. Preview: Maurice Sendak Retrospective @ AFA

On the heels of the sad passing of Maurice Sendak last month, the AFA gallery in New York has announced a retrospective in loving memory of the influential illustrator. The exhibition will open on Saturday, June 9th, the day before what would have been the artist’s 84th birthday, and will remain on display through Labor Day. The showing at the SoHo space will feature nearly 50 original works, including published pieces, conceptual art and a bronze sculpture.

Openings: Kevin Cyr – “In Praise of Rust” @ Jonathan Levine

A couple weeks back, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery also hosted a new solo from Kevin Cyr (interviewed) alongside Doze Green and Eric White. In Praise of Rust features the New York-based painter’s signature depictions of old vehicles, especially those with the patina of age and graffiti on its surface. Showing: Doze Green – “Luminosity in the Dark Rift” @ Jonathan LeVine

One of the artists displaying works alongside Eric White’s current showing (covered) is New York-born, Northern California-based artist Doze Green, in what is his fourth solo exhibition at Jonathan LeVine. Luminosity in the Dark Rift, features a series of mixed media works on canvas, panel, and paper all demonstrating his signature combinations of cubism, abstract lifeforms, and stylized letterforms leading to rich and complex compositions. Showing: Eric White – “Transmission” @ Jonathan LeVine

A couple weekends ago, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted the opening for Eric White’s (interviewed) solo show – Transmission. For this new body of work, the talented New York-based artist continued to explore his interest in cinematic compositions, in particular scenes where automobiles are figured prominently. The detail in these pieces need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated as they are all beautifully rendered and elicit a sense of a bygone era in the annals of movie-making.
