Previews: “A Material Legacy” @ Nasher Museum of Art

Tomorrow (February 18th) in Durham, North Carolina, the Nasher Museum of Art will be opening A Material Legacy, a group exhibition featuring selections from the collection of Nancy Nasher and David Haemisegger. New Dalek Mural (North Ridge Basketball Academy)

Just in time for winter mini camp, James Marshall aka Dalek (interviewed) recently completed new murals at the North Ridge Basketball Academy. The locally based artist harnessed his signature gradiated geometric aesthetic to paint the walls high up in a gym that any hoops fan would love to play in, perfectly capturing the organization’s philosophy and ministry. José Parlá Mural at the Hunt Library (North Carolina)

After opening his collaborative show (covered) a couple months ago in New York with JR, José Parlá headed off on his own to complete a personal project. Conceived of over five years ago, the new piece in the James B. Hunt Library will greet students at the North Carolina State University as they strive for higher learning. Entitled Nature of Language, the mural features the NY-based artist’s signature urban calligraphy. Discuss Jose Parla here.

Installation: Dalek – “Spectrum Analysis” @ Flanders Gallery

Tonight (September 7th) in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Flanders Gallery will be hosting Spectrum Analysis, a showing of new installations from James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed). Continuing his exploration of abstract geometries, last seen in Orange County in July, Marshall will be filling the showspace with large-scale blue paintings executed on modular panels. Created last year during a residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, these diamond and starburst forms will interspaced with murals painted directly onto the gallery walls.
