Nuart Festival ’13: Part II – Ernest Zacharevic, Hush, Strøk

This year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) officially opened this weekend and we have a plethora of new street pieces to share with you. Part II sees us taking a look at the work of Ernest Zacharevic (seen above), Hush, and Strøk. If you remember, the Lithuanian Zacharevic was featured in our Art Focus article last year. It’s nice to see his inventive and whimsical works get more attention and hopefully we’ll see him invited to more street art events. Also, see Part I of our coverage here. Photo credit: Henrik […]

Nuart Festival ’13: Part I – Dot Dot Dot, David Choe, Martin Whatson

After bringing you a preview of the lineup for this year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) as well as an advance look at David Choe’s (featured) street stylings (here), we now bring you part one of our ongoing coverage of the event. This set of photos features some of the recent murals from Dot Dot Dot (seen above), Choe, and Martin Whatson. Keep your eyes on AM as we’ll have more for you from the action in Stavenger, Norway soon. Photo credit: Henrik Haven.

Preview: Nuart Festival 2013 (David Choe)

After resurfacing in Mexico for his first show in years, David Choe (featured) has switched continents for his next foray in the streets. Along with Choe, this year’s Nuart Festival in Stavenger, Norway also features Martha Cooper, DALeast, ROA, M-City, Faith47, Hush, Vhils, Ernest Zacharevic, C215, Dot Dot Dot, Dotmaster, Strok, Martin Whatson, and Aiko. Streets: Aryz (Norway)

The prolific Aryz is at it again – this time in Norway for the Oslo Triennial of Mural Art. Featuring the young Spanish street muralist’s signature faded palette, the surreal piece was painted on the side of a multi-story building and featured a skeletal man and a young girl. Take a closer look at the wall below… Photo credit: Front image – burt_barkrakk, Full image – the artist. Discuss Aryz here.

Michael Johansson – “Familiar Abstractions” @ Vigeland-Museet

Last week, we brought a look inside the studio of Michael Johansson in Malmø where he was busy preparing for his show at the Vigeland-Museet in Oslo, Norway. We now have some photos of the recently closes said exhibition, Familiar Abstractions, which features the tetris-like created cubes made from everyday objects that the Swedish artist is known for. Along with these color-coded assemblages, Johansson also filled in some doorways in with some installation work as well as displayed some grid-like sculptural pieces from rack-like materials. Streets: Nuart Festival 2012

At the end of last month, Norway saw another edition of the annual Nuart Festival roll around. And as usual, another stellar lineup of artists stopped by to work on public art projects for local and traveling street art fans to enjoy. Participants Aakash Nihalani, Dolk, Eine, How & Nosm, Jordan Seiler, Mobstr (above), Ron English, Niels Shoe Muelman, Saber, Sickboy, The Wa also found time to create some indoor installations and murals for an associated group showing. Streets: Komafest (Part IV) – Recap

After bringing you the works of Claudio Ethos, Vhils, and Conor Harrington from Komafest, all the way from Vardø, Norway, we now have a recap of some the other walls that we have not featured yet. Other artists like Steve “ESPO” Powers (seen above with his hilarious take on a common phrase), Husk Mit Navn, REMED, and ROA also visited the Norwegian island community and put up work. Streets: Komafest (Part III) – Conor Harrington

After a look at the street pieces Ethos and Vhils put up for Komafest in Norway, we turn our attention to Conor Harrington (interviewed). The UK-based painter worked on several murals while he was in Vardø which featured imagery similar to what was seen during his recent London solo (covered) as well has mix of photorealistic and abstract colonial portraiture. Top photo by Andrew Telling. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Streets: Komafest (Part II) – Vhils

After opening a duo of shows in Lisbon and Paris, where he also was able to make his mark on the city streets in those major metropolises, Vhils moves north to the much smaller town of Vardø. The relatively tiny Norwegian town is the site of Komafest, a street art festival which hopefully will help revitalize a region that has suffered from depopulation and the decay. The Portuguese artist applied his unique technique to a something we haven’t seen before, a wooden building – with a pretty sweet result […]

Streets: Komafest (Part I) – Ethos

Way above the polar circle, a small Norwegian island community has kicked off a street art festival – Komafest. Stavanger-based street artist Pøbel has invited a quality lineup of artists up to Vardø, Norway to paint up the town including E. B. Itso, Conor Harrington, Steve “ESPO” Powers, Husk mit navn, Atle Østrem, Horfe, Roa, Remed, Vhils, Ken Sortais, and Claudio Ethos. One of the first to arrive and probably the one that had to travel the farthest was the Sao Paulo-based Ethos who promptly […]
