AM was on hand for the opening of Nick Walker’s (interviewed) “A Sequence of Events” show and book launch at Black Rat Press. There was a great turnout to see the original images from the book, which was a retrospective of the past ten years of Nick’s and also included some new imagery. Nick was on hand to sign copies of the book for fans, many of whom had waited much of the day to score the two now sold-out prints released at the opening. […]

AM stopped by Salon 94 to check out Marilyn Minter’s latest show “Green Pink Caviar.” One of our favorite photographers, Marilyn is again at her best with her signature style of showcasing glamor and its realistic underbelly. Through her unique vision, the viewer is transported to a world of vibrant colors and lusciously sexy subjects. Best known for her stunning photographs, Minter is also an accomplished painter and this body of work also features her largest photo-realistic painting to date. Continued after the jump…

Jeff Soto (interviewed) opened his UK solo show to a packed house at StolenSpace yesterday. The two bodies of work currently being shown at Thinkspace Gallery, “A Brief History” by Allison Sommers (interviewed) and Joao Ruas’ “Inner Myth” certainly live up to this age-old saying. Openings: Ben EINE – “Shutter Font” Exhibition @ Nelly Duff

Ben EINE, the street artist best known for his massive lettering across shop fronts and walls throughout the United Kingdom, presented his “Shutter Font” exhibition last week with Nelly Duff. The show was a behind the scenes look into the various stages of EINE’s pieces and also served to document his world record attempt, with EINE slated to hand-pull a seventy-seven color screen print across an edition of 150 pieces, resulting in 11,550 individual hand-pulls to complete all the works. Hailing from the land down under, Melissa Haslam (interviewed) made her first trip to Los Angeles for her show â€œWild Fieldsâ€ (previewed) which opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Haslam presents her viewers with what she understands best: striking female characters against the backdrop of local Aussie flora and fauna mixed with just the right splash of color. Japanese artist Usugrow, best known for his collaborative projects with Upper Playground and Vans, debuted his latest project “Shinganist” at FIFTY24SF last night. This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw.
