There was a great turnout to see the original images from the book, which was a retrospective of the past ten years of Nick’s and also included some new imagery. AM stopped by Salon 94 to check out Marilyn Minter’s latest show “Green Pink Caviar.” One of our favorite photographers, Marilyn is again at her best with her signature style of showcasing glamor and its realistic underbelly. Through her unique vision, the viewer is transported to a world of vibrant colors and lusciously sexy subjects. Best known for her stunning photographs, Minter is also an accomplished painter and this body of work also features her largest photo-realistic painting to date. Continued after the jump…

Whoever coined the phrase “beauty is in the details” certainly knew what they were talking about. The two bodies of work currently being shown at Thinkspace Gallery, “A Brief History” by Allison Sommers (interviewed) and Joao Ruas’ “Inner Myth” certainly live up to this age-old saying. Openings: Ben EINE – “Shutter Font” Exhibition @ Nelly Duff

Ben EINE, the street artist best known for his massive lettering across shop fronts and walls throughout the United Kingdom, presented his “Shutter Font” exhibition last week with Nelly Duff. The show was a behind the scenes look into the various stages of EINE’s pieces and also served to document his world record attempt, with EINE slated to hand-pull a seventy-seven color screen print across an edition of 150 pieces, resulting in 11,550 individual hand-pulls to complete all the works. Openings: Melissa Haslam – “Wild Fields” @ LeBasse Projects

Hailing from the land down under, Melissa Haslam (interviewed) made her first trip to Los Angeles for her show “Wild Fields” (previewed) which opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Haslam presents her viewers with what she understands best: striking female characters against the backdrop of local Aussie flora and fauna mixed with just the right splash of color. Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Hello and Goodbye” @ LeBasse Projects

“Hello and Goodbye” (featured) the latest body of work from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened this past Saturday at LeBasse Projects. The show featured some of Yamamoto’s largest paintings to date and the level of detail and techniques employed by Yoskay for these new pieces clearly show his artistic growth since his last solo. Japanese artist Usugrow, best known for his collaborative projects with Upper Playground and Vans, debuted his latest project “Shinganist” at FIFTY24SF last night. Featuring the paintings, sculpture and drawing of Bene, Mozyskey, Toshikazu Nozaka and Jun Kaneko, “Shinganist” is an intriguing look into the work of some of Japan’s up-and-coming young artists. Openings: Logan Hicks & Broken Crow – “Broken Horse”

This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw. Utilizing an intricate stenciling process, Logan was able to create scenic snapshots of some of the coolest urban landscapes we’ve seen from a stencil artist.
