This past weekend, Chris Johanson opened his massive retrospective at Malmö Konsthall in Sweden. Organized by Galleri Nicolai Wallner, Alright Alright (previewed) presents an extensive collection of large scale paintings, smaller works on paper, and mixed-media sculptures from the Portland-based artist, collectively exploring such existential issues as “self-delusion, alienation, deceit, and monotony”. This past weekend, AM stopped by to catch a fresh exhibition at Martha Otero Gallery. As explained in our preview, the curiously titled Oniomania means “to compulsively buy”. AM was in Sheffield last weekend for the official opening of Kid Acne’s three month run of the Kill Your Darlings solo exhibition at Sheffield Museum’s Millenium Gallery. Usugrow and fellow Shinganist artist, Toshikazu Nozaka recently reprised their 2-man show at Melbourne’s Backwoods Gallery. Usugrow has again created a few new drawings combining flowing lines, skulls, stipple and a self invented caligraphy, and is still able to incorporate them in a new way that keeps his work fresh and progressive. Every Thing Must Go (previewed), the new Charming Baker pop-up show in London’s Covent Garden opened on Thursday 7 July. It was a well-organised, confidently-run operation on the night. AM has been keeping a watchful eye on Continental European shows featuring works by Barry McGee.
