Showing: “KINDERGARTEN” @ Galleria Civica (Italy)

Today in Modena, Italy, Gallerie Civica is hosting the opening of KINDERGARTEN, a group show featuring the talents of Tom Sachs, Futura, Mode 2, Os Gemeos, Kostas Seremetis and Delta. It looks like each of the artists have taken time to bring some sculptural works and installations to the space, leading to a dramatic setting – one that should be enjoyable for “children” of all ages. More photos after the jump…

Showing: “Street Art – Meanwhile in deepest East Anglia, thunderbirds were go . . . .” @ Von Der Heydt Museum (Germany)

Currently showing at the Von Der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, Germany is an exhibition with a rather cumbersome title – Street Art – Meanwhile in deepest East Anglia, thunderbirds were go . . . . Not sure who came up with the name, but included are a great group of street artists – Ash, Herbert Baglione, Boxi, Brad Downey, Ben Eine, Faith47, Boris Hoppek, Mark Jenkins, JR, Os Gêmeos, Mirko Reisser (DAIM), Swoon, and Zezão. Take a look at more pics sent to us from [...]

Focus: Osgemeos – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

From our first look at the epic “Art in the Streets” exhibition yesterday, you should have gotten the idea of how complex and expansive the setup really was. We now have time to bring you some in depth looks at some of the juiciest parts of the show starting with a look at the Brazilian twins Osgemeos. Take a look some detailed pics after the jump of the corridor of the MOCA that they transformed with their signature speakers, colorful paintings, and a crazy install [...]

Openings: “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA (First Look)

This morning, the Los Angeles MOCA lifted the veil of secrecy on its highly anticipated “Art in the Streets” exhibition.  This first major U.S. museum survey of graffiti and street art is the brainchild of Jeffrey Deitch (along with associate co-curators Roger Gastman & Aaron Rose) and was certainly one of the first enticing possibilities that came to AM’s mind when we first heard of his unconventional hiring as MOCA’s director early last year. Despite the inevitable quibbling about who was and who wasn’t included [...]

Preview / Streets: “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

The clock is ticking as the artists are putting the finishing touches on the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA Los Angeles. Set to open to the public this Sunday, the show was in the final stages of preparation as AM stopped by today to check on the progress both indoors and out. After a quick lap indoors, we feel confident enough to tell you that this looks to be one the best show that we’ve ever seen. Bad news is that we [...]

Preview / Installation: Barry McGee, Osgemeos, Swoon, Neck Face – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

*Edit – Photos have been taken down by request of photographer* As you saw with our look yesterday at Shepard Fairey’s (featured) install process at the MOCA, the museum is abuzz with activity as all the artists are setting up their part of the exhibition. It looks like the Nuart website has now found more preview images of what to expect when Art in the Streets opens its doors next month including work from Barry McGee, Osgemeos, Swoon, and Neck Face. More images found on [...]

Osgemeos – “Slava’s Head” for The Moulin / Dépayz’arts

It looks like Osgemeos has hooked up with The Moulin again for another project, this time to fashion Slava’s head out of a trailer. The character is taken of the famous Russian clown show – Slava’s SnowShow, which is also the subject of an animation that the Brazilian duo are working on (shown here previously).  The installation will be part of a project called “Dépayz’arts“, held between Dec 27th-31st, with some of the best theater, dance, music, installation and street theatre groups including of course, [...]

Openings: “Law of the Jungle” @ Lehmann Maupin

When AM came back from our adventures during Basel Week down in warm Miami, we were greeted back in New York by freezing temperatures. Fortunately, “the twins” made a trip back with us back to the Big Apple. We caught the opening night at Lehmann Maupin Gallery where a great group show curated by Tiago Carneiro da Cunha was on display. The show’s central theme was “survival of the fittest” and featured Efrain Almeida, Caetano de Almeida, Ashley Bickerton, Joshua Callaghan, Marcos Chaves, Saint Clair Cemin, [...]

Streets: Basel Week Miami ’10 Overview (Part II)

With more murals than you can count at this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, here is part two (see part one here) of our overview starting with the classic combination of Mac & Retna (who also had a solo show at Primary Projects). Take a look at the results of other artists’ hard work after the jump including Os Gemeos, Ekundayo, Chris Stain, Aiko, Roa, and more…

Basel Week Miami ’10: New Image Art

Last night, New Image Art took over South Beach’s Cafeina for a group exhibition (teased) that should prove to be one of the more compelling events of Art Basel Week. As is often the case, Sao Paulo street art sensations Osgemeos stole the show with their heartfelt interpretations of their Brazilian countrymen, always dressed to impress in colorfully patterned attire. A selection of giant canvases, executed flawlessly with spray cans and incorporating the playful imagery and vibrant palette that has become patented by the Twins, [...]
