Previews: Reginald Sylvester II – “Reaching For Heaven” @ Pace Prints

Tonight, Pace Prints will be unveiling a new body of work by artist Reginald Sylvester II. Entitled Reaching for Heaven, this series calls on his talent of using oil sticks & acrylic paint to create densely packed abstractions. Through bold colors, black outlines and child-like scribbles, Sylvester builds his visual vocabulary and with it, creates compositions that invoke the perpetual stimulation of today’s digital life style. This exhibition approaches the idea of humanity in an age where identity is synonymous with the selfie.

Recap: Kenny Scharf @ Pace Prints

Pace Prints recently unveiled an exhibition of fresh works by New York legend Kenny Scharf. The self-titled show consisted of unique silkscreen prints on which his signature cartoon-like faces were depicted three-dimensionally from painted and sculpted paper pulp. This new technique brings to life another aspect of his classic characters, who already exhibit vivid colors and wild emotions. AM stopped by the How & Nosm studio in NYC around time when the artistic duo was finalizing their preparations with Pace Prints for their collaborative print project. Erik Parker recently launch an brand new series with Pace Prints. Entitled Upswing Dub Project, the Brooklyn-based painter held his inaugural exhibition with the famed print gallery. Upcoming: Erik Parker – “Upswing Dub Project” @ Pace Prints

This week, painter Erik Parker will unveil a new series of monoprints at New York’s Pace Prints. Entitled Upswing Dub Project, this show will be Erik’s inaugural exhibition at the iconic space. Utilizing his unique painting style and compositions, Mr. Parker collages rarities and other “miscreations” from his storied repertoire in this creative body of works. The show opens March 7th with an opening reception with the artist from 6-8pm.

Previews: Yoshitomo Nara – “Doggy Radio”

Last year, while AM was in Hong Kong, we had a chance to visit HOW2WORK studios and preview their special collaboration with blue-chip Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Entitled Doggy Radio this unique project is a functional sculpture created by Nara and designed jointly between Sayers Studios & H2W. This beautiful limited edition artwork features Nara’s signature white dog (seen here), with the help of a specially placed “belly speaker” created by YAMAHA Lab, this lonesome puppy acts as a functional sound system.
