Streets: Philippe Baudelocque (Paris)

French street muralist Philippe Baudelocque recently painted a new piece in his home city in his signature style. The gorilla joins his menagerie of animals that have made it onto walls in Paris, rendered in a patchwork of abstract patterns. This was placed on the door of Magnum Photo’s Paris office. Currently showing the Paris branch of Galerie Paris-Beijing is Liu Bolin’s Hiding In The City featuring new examples of the Chinese artist’s signature technique of painting himself to blend in with the background. Last time we spent time with the “Invisible Man” was while he was in New York working on a complex collab (here & here) with French artist JR as well as unveiling a solo show at Eli Klein (covered) last year so it’s nice to see some new work.  You should too if you are in Paris before the show closes […]

Openings: KAWS – “Imaginary Friends” @ Galerie Perrotin

Officially opening their doors just hours ago, Galerie Perrotin in Paris unveiled all new works from the NY-based KAWS in his highly anticipated solo Imaginary Friends. Highlights of the show included multiples of his running chum canvases (also replicated as showcards making a nice souvenir) as well as creatively-shaped irregular piece that appeared to be mirrored in a more conventional painting right next to it – leading to an interesting side by side comparison. Also making the trip and greeting fans in the courtyard was the impressive COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) sculpture […]
