Releases: Pejac – “Desprestigio”

Pejac recently announced his first ever sculptural edition based on a piece that was exhibited earlier this year at his A Forest show in Venice (covered). For this release, the Spanish artist created a complex production process that involved different techniques and mediums, challenging both himself personally and the idea of an editioned art piece. Desprestigio is his commentary on the catastrophic consequences of the sinking of oil tanker MV Prestige in November 2002 in Galicia, Spain. The spill polluted thousands of kilometers of coastline and more than one […]

Openings: Pejac – “A Forest”, Venice

Last night, Pejac officially opened his two day pop-up show A Forest at Squero di San Troves in the very heart of Venice. Using this unique setting as a backdrop for his newest exhibition, the Spanish artist created an impressive new body of work only one year since his successful and sold out London show (covered). Set in one of the very last places where the iconic gondolas are still made by hand, and just around the corner from the path of mega yachts and large cruisers while […]

Upcoming: Pejac – “A Forest” @ Squero di San Trovaso (Venice)

Coming up on September 30th (coinciding nicely with the Venice Biennale), Pejac will be opening a two day only show entitled A Forest at the Squero di San Troves in Venice, Italy. The boatyard is one of the last places where traditional gondolas are still hand made, a fitting setting for those who are familiar with the Spanish artist’s work. The new pieces on display will mainly continue his recent “The Redemption Series” created on pressed wood panel and reference the “senseless ways in which humans […]

Releases: Pejac – “Scattercrow” Print

Pejac will be releasing a new limited edition on Friday 14th at 6PM CEST (12PM EDT) via his official website. Scattercrow is a lithograph featuring one of his earlier images (first painted back in 2010). For this release, the Barcelona-based artist picked the old-fashioned process of lithograph stone printing in order to achieve an as direct and as unchanged of a image reproduction. Painting directly on a limestone block, using traditional tools and chemicals, he once again created the image of a scarecrow that is dissolving into […]

Installation: Pejac – “Nature First”

Nature First is the title of the latest action by Pejac, revealed the other day via his official website. This installation once again shows his ability to work with different mediums while passing on a strong, important message. Like most of his works, this intervention speaks about environmental issues – the over-exploitation of natural resources, namely cutting down trees for human need. Playing with the idea of the surreal and familiar, the Spanish artist placed a children’s slide inside a forest in Olot just outside Gerona, […]

Updates: Pejac – “Redemption” Series

Redemption is the title of the newest series of monochrome pieces that Pejac recently worked on in his studio. Consisting of six new pieces created with pencil and ink on pressed wood panels, they once again show the artist’s unique way in perceiving the world and finding inspiration in most unexpected places. After creating countless public works in which he incorporates the elements of the surroundings, the Barcelona-based artist found a way to paint studio works in a similar manner. Using the common pressed wood panel as the […]

Streets: Pejac (Croatia)

After a series of interventions in London back in June (covered), Pejac just revealed his latest public works produced during his residency with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, Croatia. The Barcelona-based artist recently spent two weeks in the city on the Adriatic coast where he created three new and peculiar works. Camouflage (Tribute to René Magritte) is arguably Pejac’s most demanding and complex work to date. Created on the large windows of an abandoned power plant in a former paper factory, the poetic piece depicts a boy […]

Openings: Pejac – “Law of the Weakest” (London Popup)

On Thursday, July 21st, Pejac revealed his long awaited London solo show for a private viewing. Installed as a popup at the Londonewcastle Project Space on Redchurch Street, Law of the Weakest included around 30 pieces created in the last couple of months exclusively for this event. The visitors entered the main part of the show through a dark room in which a large ball pit was placed. Looking ordinary at first, on closer examination, a shark fin could be seen emerging out of the colorful balls, adding tension to a usual place […]

Law of the Weakest, the first major solo exhibition by Spanish artist Pejac, opens this Friday, 22 July in London. Held at Londonewcastle Project Space (28 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DP), the pop-up will run until Sunday 31 July. AM initially mentioned a forthcoming show back in January. Yesterday, we had a look around during the setup, taking just a few snapshots so as to not ruin the whole surprise. The exhibition will be an ambitious affair incorporating around 35 pieces: paintings on canvas and wood; […]

Streets: Pejac (London)

Only 10 days ahead of his big London debut, Pejac released another fresh intervention created recently on the streets of British capital. As a response to Brexit and it’s causes and consequences, the Spanish artist came up with yet another fresh concept to comment on the sensitive sociopolitical issue. Borrowing a title from the iconic British band Oasis, Don’t Look Back in Anger is a recreation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night scratched with car keys on a hood of a black Jaguar. Mixing vandalism and fine […]
