Streets: World Roundup (Oct 13 – Jan 12)

During the winter months, we typically see a slowdown of street activity due to the colder weather. After a brief hiatus, our Streets: World Roundup feature returns with a summary of the intervening months. Leading things off is this Invader (who has a new website) piece that is seen in a new light in the wake of the tragic events that went down recently in the French artist’s home base (photo by tofz4u). Other notable walls come from ROA – Germany (source), Herakut – USA, […]

Je Suis Charlie

With the world’s attention on Paris after the tragic events that unfolded today, artists around the world have shown their solidarity with the French people by doing what they do best – making art. Inspired by the phrase “Je Suis Charlie” or “I Am Charlie,” creatives like Hanksy above have shown their support for freedom of expression with “cartoons” of their own. Take a look at a small sampling below…                               […]

Openings: “Paper Party 2” @ Richard & Le Feuvre Gallery

Freshly opened Richard & Le Feuvre Gallery in Geneve, Switzerland, introduced their work to the local art lovers with an inaugural group show titled Paper Party 2. Combining works by eleven artists from five different countries, this large show featured about 50 original works on paper that will stay on view until the end of the year. For this exhibition, the gallery brought together artists that they consider as some of the more interesting that contemporary urban art can offer at the moment. Ranging in styles, the […]

Streets: Phlegm x Pixel Pancho (New Zealand)

It looks like Phlegm and Pixel Pancho recently collaborated on a pretty elaborate mural in New Zealand for the Dunedin Street Art Festival. Working around some architectural elements as well as some wall foliage, the signature characters from the UK-based Phlegm mixed well with the robotic tendencies of the Italy-based Pixel Pancho. Their work melded seamlessly, in no small part due to Phelgm’s decision to only use brushes and a sepia palette, matching up with the other artist perfectly. Photo credit: Joshua Jeffery. Showing: “Timeline” @ Underdogs Gallery

The year is coming to a close and as with any year’s passing we tend to stop and reflect. In doing so, we can certainly say this was the year of the Underdogs. And by Underdogs, we mean a band of art activists turning Lisbon upside down with one large scale mural project after another, rivaling cities five times its population. The year ending show at the Underdogs Gallery appropriately titled TIMELINE takes pause to celebrate not only the year’s incredible accomplishments, but the the marking of […]

Streets: Vhils x Pixel Pancho (Lisbon)

With some recent articles, we have introduced to you several public murals arranged by the Underdogs platform in Lisbon as well as some gallery shows. We now have another street piece to share with you in the same vein – a collaboration between Vhils and Pixel Pancho. The joint wall saw the locally-based Vhils mix his chiseled technique with the Italian Pixel Pancho’s robotic imagery leading an interesting interaction of disparate styles. Preview / Releases: “Time Line” @ Underdogs

After whole year filled with activities, mostly focused on producing new large size murals by some of the world’s top street and urban artists, Lisbon’s Underdogs platform is entering it’s final phase. With a group show Timeline, opening on November 29th at the gallery in Lisbon, they are rounding out their first year by showing exclusive and original work by artists who they have worked with during 2013: Interesni Kazki (Ukraine), Cyrcle. (USA), ±MAISMENOS± (Portugal), Pixel Pancho (Italy), and How & Nosm (USA). The original works at […]

Streets: World Roundup (Oct 21 – Oct 27)

This week’s Streets World Roundup is headlined by the latest piece from Banksy during his month long artist residency on the streets of New York. Painted on Day 28 of the project, this wall in Coney Island muses on what a robot would paint if he was to do graffiti. Take a look at other murals you may have missed from Mr. B earlier in the month here. Other notable walls come from ABOVE – Canada, Mark Jenkins – Germany, Mark Dean Veca – Los […]

Another week, another selection of great public art from around the world. This week’s Streets World Roundup, the last of 2012, is headlined by a new piece from Martin Ron (in collaboration with Frederico Ron) entitled Lujuan Pedro and His Dog (source). The mural was painted for the Meeting of Styles event in Buenos Aires, held in the Barracas district. Other notable work this week comes from Phlegm – UK, Gaia x Freddy Sam – South Africa, Escif – Spain, Shepard Fairey – Miami, Pixel Pancho x […]

Streets: World Roundup (Dec 10 – Dec 16)

Our global summary of street work returns this week with a look around the world but heavily tilted towards Florida due to Basel Week Miami. Kicking things off though is this new piece in Sri Lanka from the UK-based Phlegm. The rare splashes of color seen stem from his use of car paints in this wall. Other notable pieces come from RONE – Miami, Meggs – Miami, Phibs – Miami, Escif – France, Belin x Koka – Mexico (source), Dabs Myla truck – Miami, Prime […]
