POW! WOW! / SXSW ’16: Recap

Earlier this month, the POW! WOW! crew spent a second year (see 2015) at SXSW painting murals for festival goers to enjoy. The roster this year included artists like Esao Andrews, Fafi, Jasper Wong, Jeffrey Gress, Kamea Hadar and Madsteez as well as local muralists like Dave Lowell, Eleanor “Niz” Herasimchuk, Jason Eatherly (seen above), Scott Tarbox, and Wade “Fish” Thompson, See some of what they painted below… Photo credit: Jasper Wong.                  

POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Streets: Slinkachu

After a look (here & here) at most of the murals painted for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, we now focus in on some of the work for the event that you may have missed. Created on a miniature level by Slinkachu, the tiny sculptures were scattered and hidden in plain site around Oahu, including underneath some of the muralists, leading to some interesting collaborations. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Streets: In Progress

Starting this week, artists have been hard at work painting murals for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii. Beautifying the streets of Kaka’ako in Oahu with their imagery, the participants get to enjoy the tropical weather and throngs of fans as they leave their mark at the annual event. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Showing: “Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Over the weekend, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked off the festivities with a show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, something they have done for the last two years before this (see 2015 & 2014). As in the past, artists were asked to contribute works that conform to a certain format, leading to a visually congruent and display of artworks. Tomorrow (February 7th) will mark the third time Thinkspace has curated a show in association with POW! WOW! Hawaii at the Honolulu Museum of Art School (see 2015 & 2014).
