Releases: Scott Musgrove – “The Late Fauna of Early North America” Box Set

The ever-so talented, Seattle-based artist Scott Musgrove balances his time retracing forgotten animals of generations past and reincarnating those extinct creatures with masterful precision at the easel. For those hunkering for some Musgrove goodness before his 2010 solo show at Jonathan Levine, we have just the thing. A recently released Limited Edition Box Set of his newest book, entitled “The Late Fauna of Early North America,” gives life to the lost species of yesteryear in super swanky fashion. Details after the jump.

Camille Rose Garcia x “Alice in Wonderland” Book

We thought we would share some images of an illustrated “Alice in Wonderland” book that Camille Rose Garcia is working on with Harper/Collins. We can’t wait to see the signature twists she introduces into this project – who wants to see her Mad Hatter, raise your hand! She must be busy at the moment as she’s also prepping for her solo at Merry Karnowsky (teased) come September. Look for more opportunities to meet Camille as there should be an associated signing tour tentatively scheduled around […]

NYT’s Art Critic Reviews Os Gemeos Mural

Earlier this week, the New York Times published a glowing review by esteemed art critic Roberta Smith of the recently completed mural by Os Gemeos (covered). Other than being mistaken about this being the twins’ first public artwork in Manhattan (first legal public artwork, perhaps), Smith gets everything else right, describing the stunning work in loving detail. It’s not everyday that the “Old Gray Lady” gives such accolades to street artists, so congrats to Os Gemeos. Well deserved. Discuss Os Gemeos here.

Rolling Stone’s Obama Cover by Shepard Fairey

The August 20th issue of Rolling Stone will feature a cover with a new image of Barack Obama by Shepard Fairey.  Unlike the idealistic iconic image that a nation of Obama supporters fell in love with, the latest by Fairey incorporates elements that show the situation that the President is currently in. As the artist puts it: “it’s one thing to be running for president and it’s another to be President, and I think this new illustration that I did hopefully captures the complexity and […]

Publications: vna Magazine

We recently picked up a copy of “vna,” a beautiful A5 sized publication and enjoyed the content so much that we thought we should share the information here for those who may not have come across it yet… “vna” documents UK street art through some of the best photographers out there capturing this ephemeral work before it disappears, and serves as a great record preserving all the best work put up on the streets.   Issue 9 looks bigger and better than ever, with 100 full colour pages showing work […]

Travis Louie Book Signing @ Gallery 1988 LA

AM stopped by Gallery 1988 in LA a couple days ago to attend the Travis Louie’s (interviewed) book signing. His book “Curiosities,” released by Baby Tattoo Books & Galley 1988, chronicles his paintings from the last several years and of course, the stories that go along with it. As usual, Travis was more than happy to sign and sketch for his fans as well as showing off his unbelievable calligraphy skills.  He also brought along some mini-paintings and sketches for sale. More pics after the […]

Releases: Scratching The Surface Book

AM has just received news of a special event taking place at Lazarides’ Greek Street Shop on Friday, July 31st. To mark the closure of “Scratching The Surface”, Vhils’ successful solo exhibition at Lazarides Rathbone place (covered here and here), a special limited edition book of the same name will be released, as well as three Laz-exclusive hand-finished prints. Each of the full color, 80 page books has been signed by Vhils. We love the laser-cut front cover and look forward to taking a peek at […]

Art Focus: Thomas Doyle x New York Times Magazine

An artist we recently fell in love with at the Culver City Artwalk, Thomas Doyle, was commissioned by the New York Times Magazine to create a sculpture for their “Infrastructure” issue. This issue, which hits newsstands today, focuses on architecture, a perfect fit for half of what Doyle does so well – create small scale replicas of different structures and buildings placed in terrariums. The other half of what he does well is what sets him apart from ordinary diorama makers – capturing human emotion […]
