Oscar Weekend, AM attended the Black Swan inspired group show at Regen Projects, which featured an A-list lineup with names like Matthew Barney, Richard Prince, Dan Graham, Glenn Ligon, and Anish Kapoor. The exhibion explores the illusion of dualities described in Darren Aronofsky’s chilling psycho-drama: black vs. white, purity vs. sexuality, and apparition vs. reality. Openings: Lari Pittman – “New Paintings” @ Regen Projects

One of the finest galleries in Los Angeles, Regen Projects, recently opened a show of “New Paintings” by Lari Pittman. The vibrant, bright, vivid, and colorful paintings include a mixture of abstraction and figuration, each one intricate and expertly painted.  The works feature a dichotomy of “renewal/decay, secular/sacred, decorative/grotesque, hot/cold, sweet/toxic, taste/kitsch, mannered/unpredictable, transparency/opacity”.  Check out the show for yourself before it goes down Oct. 23. Art Los Angeles Contemporary ’10 – Regen Projects & Galerie Klosterfelde

Los Angeles’s own Regen Projects shared a single room with Galerie Klosterfelde from Berlin at the Art Los Angeles Contemporary fair.  The two galleries brought out fantastic pieces from their stable of superstars, including a cluster of drawings by Raymond Pettibon (pictured above), photos by Wolfgang Tillmans from his Lighter series, a Matthew Barney piece, drawings and a window piece by Lawrence Weiner, a spectacular Lari Pittman painting, a large Catherine Opie photo, and sculptures by the always-challenging German artist John Bock.
