Releases: Reka Ultimate Ears Artist Edition Speaker

Ultimate Ears has collaborated with James Reka, aka RekaOne, on a very recently released (in the US and Europe) artist edition UE Boom2 mobile speaker. Influenced by the artist’s teenage years spent drawing and tagging on his boombox, the piece is titled Lost Time, for losing oneself in the moment. The limited edition product is covered in the artist’s signature illustrations on the acoustic skin and instantly brings added style to your music listening enjoyment. The portable speaker sounds great, with good amplification and deep bass – just like what […]

This weekend marked the end of the unique Vision Art Festival that was held through the week in Crans-Montana resort in Switzerland. Streets: James Reka (Paris)

James Reka recently finished his largest mural ever at 18 Rue Regnault in the Arrondissement des Gobelins in Paris. Working five long days on a cherry picker, the Berlin-based artist spent some 250 liters of paint for this massive piece. Covering a 30 meters high facade of a 11 storey residential brick wall building, the Australian-born  artist painted a recognizable colorful piece. By putting together abstract, organic looking shapes, he was able to create this figurative image that mirrors the work presented at his recent solo show in Milan (covered). […]

Openings: James Reka – “Olympvs” @ Avantgarden Gallery

On June 4th, Avantgarden Gallery in Milan opened OLYMPVS, a solo show by James Reka, that will stay on view until THE 10th of July. For this event, the Berlin-based artist created a coherent body of work that mirrors the aesthetics of ancient Greek culture. Showing the typical imagery of that period, through his almost abstract visual language, Reka created an interesting mixture of old and new. Using his strict geo shapes along with spraypaint transparency and solid fill ins, the artist depicts recognizable architectural elements such as arches and […]

Berlin-based artist James Reka is currently in Milan, adding the final touches to his upcoming solo show opening at Avantgarden Gallery on June 4th. From the preview photos we just revived, OLYMPVS will include some fresh pieces inspired by the aesthetics of the ancient Greeks. Including figurative as […]

Streets: Reka (Rome)

James Reka was recently in Tormarancia, Rome, painting a new mural on a residential building. Entitled Natura Morta (Still Life), the finished piece is a great example of all the qualities of Reka’s work – skilled spray control that results in sharp, crispy lines and perfect shapes, a good feel for colors and use of facade color as a background, as well as neat incorporation of architectural elements in his work. In this particular piece, the Berlin-based artist demonstrates the effectiveness of his visual language created over the years. Through […]

Streets: World Roundup (Oct 13 – Jan 12)

During the winter months, we typically see a slowdown of street activity due to the colder weather. After a brief hiatus, our Streets: World Roundup feature returns with a summary of the intervening months. Leading things off is this Invader (who has a new website) piece that is seen in a new light in the wake of the tragic events that went down recently in the French artist’s home base (photo by tofz4u). Other notable walls come from ROA – Germany (source), Herakut – USA, […]

Streets: Reka (Washington, D.C.)

Reka recently spent two weeks in Washington, D.C. creating murals for  Art Whino Gallery’s new project. Thhe first one he created was this striking piece seen above at L’enfant Plaza, showing two female figures with something that appears like masks over their faces. Constructed with his signature style of abstract shapes that assemble together in recognizable forms, it is another example of the Australian artist’s skills when it comes to creating crisp sharp line work and combining complementing colors. Along with this piece, the Berlin-based artist collaborated with Polish […]

Openings: Reka & Two One – “Trip The Light” & “Hunted Hunter’s Head” @ StolenSpace

StolenSpace Gallery is opening the new season in London with two concurrent solo shows from Australian artists based in Berlin – Reka (seen above) with a body of work entitled Trip The Light and paintings from Two One’s collectively named Hunted Hunter’s Head. Reka’s fresh paintings are  inspired by his mother, who was a ballerina. His brushstrokes reflect the graceful movements of a female dancer though a monochromatic palette. Referenced in John Milton’s 1645 poem L’Allegro, to “trip the light fantastic” alludes to those who dance without inhibition. In parallel, Reka has given a new […]
