Time Release Print: Audrey Kawasaki – “Charlotte”

AM stopped by for a visit with Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) yesterday and caught her in the midst of signing her next time release print.  If you remember, she put up a couple paintings for a fan vote back in May with the consensus winner being the image you see above – Charlotte (which originally exhibited at the Suggestivism show). We’ll have more details later but look for an early August release date. Also, as you know, she’ll be showing at Merry Karnowsky at the end of the month. […]

Releases: Travis Louie – “Zarkana” Safewalls / Cirque du Soleil Poster

You may remember when we first introduced the Safewalls project from Cirque du Soleil to you back in April and then followed it up by updating you on the Miss Van release. Each show the highly successful Canadian circus puts on has its own theme as well as setting and it seems that they have paired up a great artist with each one.  The newest poster to be released (at a random time tomorrow, July 7th) will be from Travis Louie (interviewed) and will be for Zarkana. Check their […]

Behind-The-Scenes: Saber – “Keprage RWB”

Since the opening of his show, The American Graffiti Artist (covered), at the Opera Gallery, SABER (interviewed) has been involved in a slew of other shows including Street Cred in Pasadena and Assorted Flavor just last weekend. We thought we would rewind back to the NYC opening and take a closer look at the behind-the-scenes action of the creation of the Keprage RWB print that was released concurrently with that show (details for purchase here). There are more photos after the jump but we would also […]

Releases: “HEROES & VILLAINS”

According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Not only are the resulting portraits technically sound, the duo were able to capture the essence of each artist – for example, Shawn Barber (featured) and his tattoos, Tiffany Bozic and her bird, or SHAG (interviewed) in a modern retro setting. We’ve seen the publication in person and were quite […]

Candice Tripp Mini-Paintings @ Black Rat Projects

Candice Tripp (interviewed) recently dropped off some mini-paintings off at Black Rat Projects in London, with which she also recently collaborated with to release a print. She now tells AM that these first 20 paintings from the series collectively entitled The Tribe first formed in her mind as she was preparing for her Joshua Liner Gallery in 2009 (covered). For the show, she set a basic rule for herself that she had to cover each child’s face that she painted with a mask which got […]
