Edoardo Tresoldi for Cathédrale (New York)

Recently in New York, Italian artist Edoardo Tresoldi unveiled a stunning new ceiling installation for Cathédrale restaurant in Moxy East Village hotel. Entitled Fillmore, the large-scale suspended sculpture above the dining area utilizes the Italian artist’s ethereal mesh technique and draws inspiration from the iconic structure of Fillmore East, the legendary Lower East Side concert hall active until 1971 that featured The Doors, Janis Joplin, Elton John, and more. Jeff Soto for Empellón Al Pastor (New York)

After creating murals for Empellón Taqueria in New York a few years ago (covered), Jeff Soto (interviewed) has returned to paint for another restaurant from chef Alex Stupak. Empellón Al Pastor in the Pod 39 Hotel features three pieces from the Riverside, California-based artist utilizing his signature imagery. Openings: JR x Massimo Bottura – “Le Reffettorio Paris”

Last month, Le Reffettorio Paris opened its doors with the help of famed chef Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana and artist JR (interviewed). Housed in the crypts of the historic Madeleine church in Paris’s 8th arrondissement, the concept behind the space fits nicely with the setting. Jeff Soto for Empellón Taqueria (New York)

Earlier this month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) painted (with the assistance of his brother and sister-in-law) an impressive two-wall mural at Empellón in New York. Invited in by one of his long-time fans and chef Alex Stupak (seen below) to infuse his surreal imagery onto the walls of his West Village outpost, the California native chose to highlight the rooster as well a group of pottery growing imagined plants and succulents. After collaborating with restaurants in the past by incorporating his artwork into the decor, Damien Hirst has taken things to a whole new level. A new eatery was open last month by the British artist (in partnership with Mark Hix) at the Newport Street Gallery in Vauxhall, London. After working with the TAO Group on their NY downtown location by installing some of his art work in 2013 (covered), British artist Hush (interviewed) was recently asked to curate the decor for a new restaurant located on the Bowery on the Lower East Side called Vandal. Pejac For Sushisamba Restaurant (London)

We recently received these exclusive shots of Pejac working on an indoor mural in London. Titled Entelequia (entelechy), this beautiful symbolic piece was commissioned by the Sushisamba restaurant for their Heron Tower private entrance. the new image mixes elements of his previous work – cherry blossom flowers from his recent image and sold out print release Sepukku (covered), with a girl on a swing, one of the images he used to paint on windows. Artists who have have been featured here on AM continue to be viable options for restaurants that want a distinctive interior for their customers. Several months ago, INSA was in Shanghai where he oversaw the completion of his collaboration with Architect INDJ on the decor of G九上海 (G9 Shanghai).
