Last weekend, the outdoor fields and indoor hanger Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona were the venues for the hand-painted vintage planes of The Boneyard Project: Return Trip. While the the DC Super 3 planes painted by How & Nosm, Nunca, and Retna, a C97 cockpit by Saner, a C45 plane by Faile, and a Lockheed VC 140 Jetstar by Andrew Schoultz were already stunning enough as centerpieces of the exhibition, when you include the nose cones, cockpits, and other plane segments painted [...]

Set up as one of the premier art events this month, The Boneyard Project: Return Trip opens on January 28th at the Pima Art and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. With only a couple more weeks to go before the opening for The Boneyard Project: Return Trip, artists are hard at work getting their plane parts painted – especially those who have whole planes to cover (DC Super 3 planes painted by How & Nosm, Nunca, and Retna, a C97 cockpit by Saner, a C45 plane by Faile, and a Lockheed VC 140 Jetstar by Andrew Schoultz). This past Saturday, the Known Gallery teamed up with Modern Multiples, a LA-based print studio and one of the powerhouses in this industry, for one a one week pop-up show in which an incredible collection of prints were on display and available for purchase just in time for the holidays. A major player during this year’s Art Basel Week Miami, it seemed like RETNA (featured) and his work was in demand everywhere. Not only did we see his handiwork at the Primary Projects group show, in the Wynwood District, and at various fairs, we also had the chance to attend a Q&A session at his temporary luxury home on Hibiscus Island. The mural seen above though was probably the largest wall we saw from him in Miami, and is located near Ron English’s piece from 2009. More photos [...]

Basel Week Miami: “Here Lies Georges Wildenstein” @ Primary Projects

A couple nights ago, the Primary Projects space in Miami’s Design District hosted Here Lies Georges Wildenstein, a group show featuring Marc Bijl, Retna, Michael Vasquez, Miru Kim, Cleon Peterson, George Sánchez-Calderón, Manny Prieres, Andrew Nigon, Scott Shannon, Christina Pettersson, Shelter Serra, How & Nosm, Kenton Parker, Cole Sternberg, Edouard Nardon, & Jel Martine. The reference to the death of Wildenstein is metaphor for the “old money” powering the art world along with “the mass of collectors, curators, museum trustees (those who wield considerable socio-political powers)” over [...]

Later this afternoon, around 3pm, the Wende Museum in Los Angeles will be unveiling three new murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) painted on the side of a section of the old Berlin Wall. A couple days ago, we brought you photos of Jasmin and Falk in action doing their part and now, we can show you what D and Retna decided to impart on their segments of the historic barrier. The AM crew did a night time driveby past the new RETNA (featured) wall in Beverly Hills recently. The mural on the side of Gallery Brown isn’t the MSK AWR street calligrapher’s first time putting in work in the area if you remember, as he also put his brush on the walls of the Chanel flagship store in the city recently.
