Videos: RETNA for MOCAtv

MOCAtv recently released a new video featuring the Los Angeles-based RETNA (featured) spanning several projects put together in conjunction with the museum. The footage includes an interview with the graffiti artist as he talked about his two recent murals, The Falcon Before and After – 2013 and Para Mi Gente, Los Pintores de Nuestra Alma, painted at the Grand Ave Location for their 2013 Gala. Also discussed was his work with the Louis Vuitton Young Arts Program (see RETNA’s other collaborations with the fashion line here and here). Discuss RETNA here.

Starting from the first inklings of the project back in October, Louis Vuitton seemed to be tapping into the the street art game to further their long line of artist collaborations. After their the initial foray in this direction, the iconic fashion house’s project has expanded to include three artists so far – Aiko, Os Gemeos, and RETNA. Over the weekend, AM was invited to a special event presented by New Image Art & Robert Galstian at RETNA’s (featured) studio timed nicely to coincide with the Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Along with a look at his spacious work space and refreshments, guests were also allowed to participate in an auction of available works to benefit Inner-City Arts. Remember the mural we mentioned in our Overtime article a couple weeks ago that RETNA (featured) painted for Louis Vuitton? Last night, Michael Kohn Gallery hosted the opening for local graffiti artist RETNA (featured) and his solo show featuring New Paintings and Works on Paper. Both the outside and inside of the gallery were transformed by the MSK-affiliated writer with his urban hieroglyphics in the form of paintings on the interior and with his script directly on the exterior walls of the showspace.
