Previews: Walking with The Dutch Giant – A Benefit for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Honoring Justin Van Hoy @ Space 1026

2012 Election: #GoVote – November 6th

It seemed like only yesterday that the some of the art world (here, here, here, here) helped boost Barack Obama into the White House. Now, it’s almost time for the 2012 elections and although the buzz created by the visual culture may not be as overwhelming as 2008, some artists are still taking a stand to make their voices heard. TrustoCorp created this image above reminding people to vote between hot dogs (Obama) & burgers (Romney) as there’s only one week left before Nov. 6th. Streets: REVOK x RIME (Detroit)

Featuring two graf legends who have mastered a aesthetic of their own, this recent collaboration from REVOK and RIME really hit the spot. Entitled A MAN’s THREAT & A WOMAN’s PET, the mural combined many elements from the two MSK brothers’ work including the figurative stylings of Jersey Joe and the strength of lettering from REVOK. Check out all the sick details of this complex and layered piece below… Photo via The Seventh Letter & REVOK. Discuss REVOK here. Discuss RIME here.

Openings: REVOK – “Gilgamesh” @ Known Gallery

Not only did Known Gallery host an opening reception from SABER (interviewed) on Saturday night (covered), the Los Angeles showspace also featured new works from REVOK in a joint exhibition. Entitled Gilgamesh, the collection of intricately assembled sculptural pieces represent a carefully selected montage of found materials garnered from the slowly decaying areas of Detroit, REVOK’s current city of choice and source of inspiration. These forgotten pieces of the Motor City were constructed into an intriguing display of diamonds, triangles, rectangles and other irregular polygonal shapes. Also seen in the […]
