Last month, the Joshua Liner Gallery in Chelsea presented all new works from Yokohama-based artist Riusuke Fukahori in his New York solo debut. The self-described goldfish fanatic keeps many of them around his studio for inspiration as well as considers them a metaphor for his life. Last week, we attended Joshua Liner’s opening of his new Chelsea gallery with a group exhibition entitled Direct Address. The expansive ground-floor space was filled with a impressive collection of works by The Clayton Brothers, David Ellis,  Evan Hecox, Jean-Pierre Roy, Kris Kuksi (above), Richard Colman, Stephen Powers, SWOON, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Tony Curanaj and others. Riusuke Fukahori and his amazing three-dimensional paintings have been selected as our Art Focus this week. With incredible patience and with layer by layer of paint and poured resin, Fukahori builds up these incredible life-like creations of his favorite subject – goldfish.
