Studio Visits: Brian Viveros – “Matador” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Coming up on Saturday night (November 7th), Brian Viveros will be presenting a comprehensive new body of work at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Matador, the exhibition sees the Riverside-based artist further refine his imagery with more time-intensive detailing, drawing ideas from Spanish tradition to infuse his work with a consistency referenced by the title of the show. Along with accenting the imagery with fresh palette choices, Viveros has also embellish his femme fatales with a cross-pollination of different concepts and themes seen throughout his oeuvre. The solo from the American […]

Baby Tattooville ’15: Mark Ryden Paintings

Our last piece of business to close out our coverage of this year’s Baby Tattooville is to show you the glorious sight that greeted attendees at brunch on Sunday, the morning after the once-in-a-lifetime experience of the Surrealist Ball hosted by Mark Ryden and Marion Peck. Lined up neatly on tables at the front of the room were original monochromatic paintings from Ryden that were used for the art on the special plate (seen right below) used by guests the night before at the event. Each little original was given […]

Baby Tattooville ’15: Surrealist Ball

On Saturday night, attendees of this year’s Baby Tattooville at Riverside’s Mission Inn witnessed something that they will not soon forget for a very long time. The highlight of the annual art retreat (although this year’s was the last) was a Surrealist Ball hosted by none other than Mark Ryden and Marion Peck. The two artists along with friends Anthony Ausgang, Sas Christian, Olivia De Berardinis, Ron English, Camille Rose Garcia, Bosko Hrnjak, KRK Ryden, and Isabel Samaras got in full costumes along with the guests and settled in for a […]

Baby Tattooville ’15: Art Jam

Every year at Baby Tattooville, one of the most intriguing and fun events is the continuously ongoing “Art Jam.” For 2015, participating artists Anthony Ausgang, Sas Christian, Olivia De Berardinis, Ron English, Camille Rose Garcia, Bosko Hrnjak, Marion Peck, KRK Ryden, Mark Ryden, and Isabel Samaras decided to go with a black, white, and gray palette to create a surreal collaborative masterpiece. This will then be reproduced as a print overnight by Prints On Wood so that attendees can take a copy home with them. Discuss this year’s Baby Tattooville here.

Baby Tattooville ’15: Secret Store

Always one of the things attendees look forward to, Baby Tattooville’s Secret Store opened last night at 9pm sharp. Personally, we eyed the SPECIAL special edition Mark Ryden […]

Studio Visits: Jeff Soto – “Nightgardens” @ KP Projects / MKG

As we mentioned when we shared photos of a new mural from Jeff Soto (interviewed) in Los Angeles last week, his show at KP Projects / MKG is fast approaching. Opening on June 27th, Nightgardens will be the Riverside-based artist’s first solo in LA since 2006. We had the opportunity to check out some of the paintings he has been working on in his studio recently, many of which deal with creatures of the night. The new works are lush and rich, rendered with a vivid color palette, and features personal […]

Streets: Jeff Soto x Maxx242 (Riverside) – Part II

After stopping by to check in on the progress of the joint mural between Jeff Soto (interviewed) and Maxx242 in Riverside, we dropped by a couple days ago to see the finished two-wall piece. The long time friends, collaborators (see Berlin & Luxembourg), and artists who have spent most of their lives in the area hope that this new mural will be the beginning of a new renaissance for public art in this part of Southern California. Head over to University and Lemon yourself for a look if you are close by. Discuss Jeff […]
