Streets: London Instagram Roundup

I have been kindly asked by the nice guys here at AM if I would like to submit a weekly street art article from my Instagram feed. Without hesitation I accepted… For those of you who haven’t heard about Instagram, it’s an app on the iPhone where you can upload and share pictures, so all photos are taken with the iPhone. I mainly focus on the streets of Shoreditch and areas of Hackney, London, taking photographs of new and old streetart. So, here goes, I […]

Happy 4th of July!

Everyone here at AM (at least on this side of the pond) wanted to wish you a happy fourth of July! We thought that we would take this opportunity to review some of the American Flags that have been reinterpreted over the years by artists we cover here. This is by no means an exhaustive list as the iconic symbol has been a very popular inspiration for artists whether it be a patriotic or anti-patriotic creation. More flags after the jump from artists including Aaron […]

Openings: Ron English – ‘Skin Deep’ @ Lazarides Gallery

It’s been a little while since 2009’s Lazarus Rising at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, the last UK solo exhibition by Ron English. Two years and a gallery switch later, the pop surrealist, street artist and culture jammer is back — in the streets as well as indoors with Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture, his new solo effort (previewed) at Lazarides Gallery in London. English confirmed to AM that the show’s 16 canvases (on display with a couple of sculptures) have been 12 months […]

Streets: Ron English – “Skin Deep” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

Ron English has landed in London and is already working the streets with his signature Popaganda disruptions. He sent us some images during some computer breaks from putting up his new Thoughtful street campaign. If you’re fortunate enough to be in the UK starting this Friday, be sure to catch his show Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture opening at Lazarides (Rathbone Place). Also check out our recent visit to his mad laboratory here to get an idea of the new body of work he has prepared […]

Studio Visits: Ron English – “Skin Deep” @ Lazarides Rathbone Place

Last time Ron English was prepping for a show in the UK, he invited us over for a visit in his New Jersey based studio. Fast forward a few years, he’s moved into a large house in suburb of Beacon, New York. Utilizing the entire lower level as his work space, Ron is getting ready to unleash a new series of works at Lazarides (Rathbone Place) on June 23rd. Entitled Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture, this exhibition will display many of Ron’s signature popaganda characters […]

Happy Birthday Marilyn Monroe!

Because many of his pieces inspired by the Marilyn Monroe, it is only natural that Ron English (featured) would pay tribute to the incomparable American actress, singer and model with various social media today on her birthday as she would have been 85. The one above is a mishmash of work seen at the Status Factory show in NY a little while back. We’ll also have more for you on Mr. Popaganda soon as we recently visited the incredible new setup in his house and also […]

Releases: Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil Prints

Our friends at the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil project have been celebrating the art of the circus poster since late last year, commissioning Cirque-inspired pieces by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, El Mac, Jon Burgerman, Jason Limon, Shag, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson with upcoming works by Tara McPherson, Ron English, Travis Louie and Miss Van. For each city that Cirque du Soleil performs in, Safewalls commissions three artists to create a piece, which is then printed into a regular edition of 300 prints and […]

Openings: “South Park Art Gallery” @ Opera (NY)

Last night, AM attended the opening party for the South Park Art Gallery (previewed). Hosted by Comedy Central & Opera Gallery, the exhibition invited 15 artists to reinterpret their favorite character or moments from the iconic South Park animated series which is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary. Curated by Ron English (featured), amazing and hilarious paintings of Kenny, Cartman, Kyle, Stan and the rest of the SP crew were remixed from the unique visions of Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Beau Stanton, Kid Zoom, Dave White, KaNo, […]

Ron English x Chris Brown – F.A.M.E. Album Cover

The new Chris Brown album F.A.M.E.’s cover is out and it features the art of Ron English (featured). Now we know what they were talking about when they were spotted having dinner together several months ago with Chris sporting a tattoo of Ron’s art on his arm. No telling if this will help turn the disgraced R&B singer’s career around, but what we do know is this is the not the first (see Ron’s Slash cover) or last album cover Ron will be working on. […]
