Recap: Ron English @ Secret Fresh (Manila)

Over the weekend, Secret Fresh in Manila opened a new exhibition featuring the work of Ron English (featured). Although fans of the New York-based artist enjoyed the live painting, art work, and other sculptural pieces on display, the stars of the show were the larger than life Temper Tot toys. Openings: Ron English – “Evolutionary Alternatives” @ Tribeca Grand Hotel

Prior to traveling down to Basel Week Miami, Ron English (featured) unveiled a unique installation at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. Entitled Evolutionary Alternatives, this showcase curated by Natalie Kates Projects focused on Ron’s camouflage animal motif and brought it to life in the main concourse of the hotel with life sized sculptures of the deers painted to blend in with the foliage in the lobby. Openings: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last Saturday night, fans of Ron English (featured) packed the opening of his newest show at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, eager to see a new body of work that has been two years in the making. Popogandastan featured pieces that explored the gifted painter’s incredibly detailed world, filled with his surreal cast of characters and lush backgrounds. Upcoming: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On October 26th, the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City will be opening a new show from Ron English (featured) entitled Popagandastan. Presenting a new series of surreal paintings, the exhibition re-introduces Angelenos to some of his signature characters such as the neurotic Ronnnie Rabbbit, Combrats, Snappers, Wolves, Sheep, Quacks, Buddha Burgers, and of course Cowgirls. On Thursday night, September 19th, the Long Beach Museum of Art will host the opening of a new group exhibition entitled Risqué {dirty little pictures}.
