Highlights include Scott Hove’s delicious Devils Food starting off the main floor, just waiting for you to get closer. Jonathan Viner’s Force Projection will leave you mesmerized as will Christian Van Minnen’s Self Portrait as James Hurley, or Small Town […]
It seems strange to write about a show that one curated, so I’ll just give a little history about how the show came together, and let the photos speak for themselves. A few years ago Ryan Heshka had a solo show at Roq La Rue which included a couple pieces that were sequential stories and presented as stand-alone comics. They fascinated me and I wondered what a full show, with an assortment of artists might be like. The planning began and a date was chosen […]

Roq la Rue recently employed the help of many amazing artists to fill the walls for their Otherworld group show. The title of the show was also the theme, with the artists interpreting “otherworld” however they saw fit. With a roster this good, one month just wouldn’t be enough, so the show will be on display until July 27th. Check out more photos of the work from artists Martin Wittfooth (above left), Chris Berens, John Brophy, Peter Ferguson, Sam Wolfe Connelly, Casey Curran, Madeline Von Foerster (above […]
Later tonight, Ryan Heshka will be unveiling a new body of work (alongside Femke Hiemstra) at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle entitled Disasterama. The showing will feature the Vancouver-based painter’s Golden Era sci fi pulp-inspired pieces that feature the tension between man & nature (and otherworldly creatures) and often touches on technology & science in the imagery. Ryan Heshka recently premiered a new body of works at Los Angeles’ Copro Gallery. Presented by BLAB! The show entitled Strange Powers (part 2) is an exhibit of the self taught Canadian artist’s fun style that brings back nostalgic feelings of Sci-fi super 8 films, cell animation, pulp comics & magazines from a generation past. Check out a detailed look at this show after the jump.
Featuring a stellar lineup of artists, the Roq La Rue gallery will be hosting the reoccurring The Blab! Show with Krampus being the theme this time. Familiar regulars such as Nicoletta Ceccoli, Travis Louie, Martin Wittfooth, Ana Bagayan, Brian Despain, Dan May, Shag, Andy Kehoe, and some other talent new to AM will be painting their versions of the mythical creature. Judging from the piece above, there will be some spanking and other punishments in Seattle when this Friday, August 12th rolls around. More preview […]
