Streets: Sainer // The Crystal Ship (Belgium)

Earlier this month in Belgium, the third iteration of the The Crystal Ship art festival (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in an international roster of artists to create murals and art installations in the coastal city of Ostend. One of the standout walls comes from Sainer (featured) of the Etam Cru entitled Podkarpacie, a painterly piece which appears to be named after a province in Poland. The stunning mural highlights Sainer’s skills when playing with soft focus and perspective, while working with a muted palette. We’ll have a recap […]

Showing: Sainer – ‘Chaotic Harmony’ @ Galerie Openspace

Sainer’s second solo show at Galerie Openspace (previewed) in Paris will shortly be entering its final week after opening at the start of December. The title of the exhibition – Chaotic Harmony – emphasises the symbiotic relationship between these two different states of being and this idea runs like a unifying thread through the varied and extensive exhibition. The 29 year old painter makes use of the gallery’s multiple spaces to explore the varied elements which make up his work. The landscapes are a mixture of intimate plein […]

Studio Visits / Previews: Sainer (Etam Cru)

Several weeks ago we got to visit the studio of Sainer, one of two members of the infamous Etam Cru from Poland. We wanted to check out the groundbreaking new body of work for his upcoming Paris show opening on the 2nd of December at Openspace Gallery, as well as to hear what else the street art duo is up to these days. Some two months after his partner Bezt had a solo show in NYC (covered), Sainer will be opening what is shaping up to be his […]

Streets: World Roundup (Feb 21 – July 10)

It’s been quite some time since our last Streets World Roundup feature so now’s as good a time as ever to review some of the street art around the world that you may have missed in the last few months. Leading things off is a mural entitled Trumpty Dumpty that Ron English (featured) recently painted with the help of the Bushwick Collective, Mana Urban Arts, and Jonathan LeVine Gallery that make his political views clear. Other notable work come from Shok-1 (UK), Mobstr (UK), El Mac (Morocco), […]

Today at 10 am (PST), Thinkspace will be releasing a new box set in their online shop from Sainer (one half of the Etam Cru) referencing their exhibition at the gallery last year (covered). Entitled Snowman, the unique collection of art paraphernalia includes a 15″ x 15″ 7 layer screenprint on laser cut plywood of a snowman head, a special box stamped with the Polish artist’s baseball player design, three die-cut stickers, an enamel pin of the iconic Etam Cru skull icon, and a signed and numbered COA. The […]

Streets: Etam Cru (LA)

After a successful sold out Los Angeles debut show with Thinkspace Gallery (covered), Sainer & Bezt aka Etam Cru rounded up their visit to the Southland with another signature, bigger than life mural. Produced by Thinkspace Gallery and Branded Arts, the new piece from the Polish duo is entitled Mr. Rooster and is located on the corner of 8th and Wall in the downtown Flower District. For this project, the two street artists beautified a large six story facade with a striking image of a boy with a big rooster on his […]

Openings: Etam Cru – “Galimatias” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday, Thinkspace Gallery opened the long awaited LA debut of the Polish street art duo, Etam Cru. Entitled Galimatias, the new body of work from Bezt & Sainer consists of canvas, linen, wood and paper pieces painted with acrylic, graphite, ink, and spraypaint. A full house and an abundance of red dots proved the anticipation of this show was well deserved. The title of the show comes French word for “gibberish” or “nonsense.” This relates to artists’ tendency to create works that carry no deeper meaning or symbolism, made strictly for their aesthetic value and left to […]

Streets: World Roundup (May 1 – May 20)

It’s been few months without our Streets World Roundup feature, but it seems like the season for street art festival has arrived, so the only way to cover some of it is to do a group report on some of the most important murals worldwide. Tahiti once again hosted the ONO’U festival and this year’s lineup included such names as DALeast, Faith47, Seth Globepainter (who teamed up with local artist HTJ), ROA, Dabs Myla, and Pose. The south hemisphere street art scene was active once again in Dunedin […]

Streets: Sainer (Lisbon)

One half of the art duo known as Etam Cru, Sainer, recently continued his collaboration with Underdogs collective in Portugal. After releasing an exclusive limited edition lithograph with them last year (covered), the Polish artist just visited Lisbon again and painted an impressive new mural. Covering the entire facade of a 10 story building, Crossroads is a clean example of Etam Cru’s recognizable work. Done in a slightly new style which Sainer has been trying out lately, the image features an older woman crossing the road while smoking […]
