Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries” @ Quint Gallery

On view through November 10th at Quint Gallery in La Jolla, Kelsey Brookes’  new show sees him take his work in a more dimensional direction. Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries continues the locally-based artist’s longstanding practice of looking to nature and science for inspiration. The painted freestanding and wall sculptures deal with viruses and the Fibonacci sequence, and feature Brookes’ signature psychedelic and colorful patterns. On September 28th, Quint Gallery in La Jolla will be opening a show from Kelsey Brookes entitled Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries. Continuing to draw from his scientific background as former biochemist for inspiration, the locally-used artist has found a novel way to present his geometric and patterned imagery by applying them to sculptural surfaces. Upcoming: Andreas Englund – “Superlife Uncut” @ Distinction Gallery

On July 8th, Distinction Gallery in Escondido, California will be opening a solo show by Andreas England entitled Superlife Uncut. On view will be the Swedish artist’s signature humerous portraiture of an aging superhero and the details of his everyday mundane life. Timed to be on display during the San Diego Comic-Con, the exhibition will be perfect subject matter for fans to make the trek up north to catch a glimpse of England’s paintings. SDCC ’16: South Park 20th Anniversary Art Show

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, adult animated sitcom South Park hosted a 20th anniversary art show as part of their South Park 20 experience. Curated by Ron English, many of the participants are of course known to readers of AM including Buff Monster, Anthony Ausgang, Sas Christian, RISK, Kenny Scharf, Faile, and more. Streets: El Mac (San Diego)

After returning from a trip to Cambodia where he painted a few murals (covered) along with his Igloo Hong brothers, El Mac decided to work on a project a little closer to home. His latest public arts contribution was created over the holidays at UC San Diego, another portrait piece featuring his distinctive ripple effect. Currently at Quint Gallery in La Jolla is a showing from Kelsey Brookes that coincides with the release of his new book Psychedelic Space. On display are a series of paintings and prints as well as a video that explains his recent series of works that use the molecular structures of neurotransmitters and psychedelic substances as their starting point. Psychedelic Space is the soon to be released book from Kelsey Brookes from Gingko Press that explores his last three years of work. The 216 page hardcover documents his more recent paintings, spanning four solo shows, the explosive patterns that are his artistic vision of molecular structures of the psychedelic nature. The monograph has some interesting additions like “gatefold spreads, a sticker sheet, and a clear molecular overlay on his stunning “LSD” piece, along with a booklet bound within and glow-in-the-dark cover text.” To mark this […]

The hardworking people from the PangeaSeed project are continuing their praiseworthy efforts with another successful edition of their Sea Walls: Murals for Ocean events.
