Last Saturday evening, Gallery Hijinks hosted San Francisco-based artist Pakayla Biehn’s solo show, (t)here. Last Friday evening, Spoke Art Gallery hosted the opening of Sink or Swim (previewed), a benefit for the Japan-based grass roots organization PangeaSeed, whose goal is to raise international awareness on the plight of sharks. The show included literature, photos, artwork and members of PangeaSeed creating a dialogue as to why we must preserve and protect sharks and their habitat. Last week in San Francisco, Alex Lukas brought his post-apocalyptic visions to the Guerrero Gallery, featuring submerged metropolis, overgrown skyscrapers, and derelict cities. Utilizing a complex technique on paper that includes ink, acrylic, watercolor, gouache and silk screen, the Philadelphia based artist paints a desolate future where humans may play no part, focusing on the fragility of our modern society. Last Saturday, San Francisco-based realist painter, Jessica Hess opened her first solo White Walls exhibition entitled, It Finds You. Hess typically likes to take traditional landscape painting and concentrate on areas of decay, abandonment and graffiti. San Francisco gallery/store, Park Life has teamed up with print shop Paulson Bot Press for a temporary pop-up store filled with artwork and merchandise at their West Berkeley warehouse space. Park Life has curated the gallery space with new and past editions and originals from artists such as Tauba Auerbach, Andrew Schoultz, Tucker Nichols, Clare Rojas, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson and more.
