Showing: Fifth Annual “Supersonic Invitational” @ Spoke Art

If you attended any of the previous Supersonic Invitational shows, you know you’re in for a treat. We were unable to attend the reception last Saturday night at Spoke Art, but we met up with the curator/art blogger, Zach Tutor, earlier in the day for a look at all the artwork. Zach’s line up included over 75 artists from all over the globe. Supersonic Art has accrued over 500,000 followers worldwide and it seems like this show gets bigger and better each year. It also […]

Openings: Sarah Joncas & Camilla d’Errico – “Beauty in the Breakdown” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend,  Sarah Joncas (seen above) and Camilla d’Errico (seen below) opened up a joint show together at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles that included good representations of what they were known for. Beauty in the Breakdown featured the feminine portraiture  of Joncas in film-noir settings contrasted against the manga-inspired surreal work of d’Errico. Both Canada-based artists were in attendance and it looks like a good time was had by all. Photo credit: Birdman Photos. Discuss Sarah Joncas here. Discuss Camilla d’Errico here.

Upcoming: Sarah Joncas & Camilla d’Errico – “Beauty in the Breakdown” @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night (February 28th), Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City will be hosting new work from Sarah Joncas (seen above) and Camilla d’Errico (seen below). Both artists create portraiture centered on female characters but their imagery tends to be quite different, which will give the joint show a nice contrasting look. Joncas’ paintings have a cinematic feel to them with with a sense of danger or unknown while d’Errico’s pieces are more surreal featuring her characters with saccharine charm interacting with their creature friends. Openings: Sarah Joncas – “Taking Over” @ Last Rites Gallery

Earlier this month, the Last Rites Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception welcoming all new works from Sarah Joncas (interviewed). Entitled Taking Over, the new paintings see her semi-autobiographical portraits embrace a darker side with dangerous creatures, eerie transformations, and morbid scenes added to her imagery, which is not surprising seeing the setting (and their penchant for the dark arts) in which they are being displayed. Check out some photos below as well as video interview… Discuss Sarah Joncas here.

We last caught up with Sarah Joncas (interviewed) and her work during her show in June (covered) at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. On December 8th, New Yorkers will have the same opportunity to meet the Toronto-based artist and see her paintings in person when Taking Over opens at Last Rites Gallery. The fifteen new pieces that she has been working on for almost half a year will embrace the darker side of life with themes of death, loss of control, and becoming compromised explored. Coming up in a couple weeks, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting Between Wind and Water, a joint show between  Sarah Joncas (interviewed) & Caia Coopman. The Toronto-based painter will be presenting 18 new pieces, including the one seen above featuring her female portraiture.
