The lux booth design was inviting as pimp couches and rugs invited spectators to take a load off to stare at a great preview of artwork for the […]

Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Scope Fair

Part of the fun of going to the big art fairs like Art Basel is also going to all the satellite fairs, and one of our favorites is always Scope. Like in Miami and NYC, Scope Basel gave us a chance to see emerging and mid-career artists that are generally not represented at the main fair. Check out our images from Scope Basel, after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’09: SCOPE Fair

If you have been following our coverage, you will know that many of our previews this year for Art Basel Week were from the SCOPE fair. This is because many of the galleries and artists we follow decided to make a showing there. We stopped by to take a look today and snapped some pics to share with you all. This large “finger-cutting” installation from Judith Supine certainly held our attention at the New Image Art booth. Take a look at what else caught our […]

Wang Zhi Jie @ Basel Week Miami

Continuing with our coverage of Basel Week Miami, AM wanted to highlight another tantalizing find from the Scope/Art Asia fair: Wang Zhi Jie Wang Zhi Jie is a contemporary artist from China that wields a skillful brush and conjures up some very sexy and appealing imagery. He specializes in drawing “innocent girls” conducting what are perceived to be provocative actions. He uses big dreamy & shiny eyes to symbolize the innocence of these young girls and focuses on them “mimicking” adult poses/situations. More info and pics […]

Ayako Rokkaku @ Scope Miami

Over at Basel Week Miami, there were hundreds if not thousands of artists that were represented at the various art fairs. Ayako Rokkaku was one that caught AM’s eye and we did a little more digging for you. Similar to another rising Japanese arist: Masakatsu Sashie (here), Ayako also got her start at Takashi Murakami’s Geisai art fair where she won Scout Prize at Geisai #4/#10 and the prestigious Akio Goto Prize at Geisai #9. Her style is unique in that she paints not with brushes […]
