The Nova sector of the fair is designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years. It features strong associations and fresh, never-before-seen pieces from the artist’s studio to each gallery’s booths. Galleries and artists exhibiting in this sector include Michael Jon […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel Miami Beach // Positions Sector

One of the biggest criticisms of art fairs leveled by art lovers is that it is not the proper venue for properly conceived and realized artist exhibitions. Fair booths typically contain a collection of discrete works that are made to be sold and consumed. Art Basel Miami Beach’s Positions sector is the response to this criticism. The galleries that show in this part of the fair are given a platform for a single artist to present one major project. This includes installations or exhibitions that include multiple works […]

They are originally designed to as an effective strike […]

Previews: Jan Kalab – “Tension” @ BC Gallery

On the 10th of December, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show by Czech artist Jan Kalab (interviewed). Tension will include a new series of his recognizable round canvases as well as a large sculpture following along the lines of his circle inspired works. The title of the show comes from the structure of his paintings, which are based on a perfect circle. And when using a limited color palete, these pieces carry a strong feeling of tension. Streets: Jun Ong – “Star” // Urban Xchange (Malaysia)

After sharing with you the murals Sabek & DALeast painted for the Urban Xchange event in Malaysia, here is now a look at an artist that went in a completely different direction. The five story high lighting installation shaped like a star from architect Jun Ong is situated in an unfinished concrete building and required five hundred meters of steel cables and LED strips. The stunning geometric work lodged in the unused structure in Butterworth is inspired by the term “glitch,” or error in the system, which can […]

Every year, three critics under 40 choose three artists under 40 to show at the MAR Museum of Art in Ravenna, Italy as part of the annual Critica In Arte exhibition (opening tonight, November 28th). This year, Slinkachu was chosen by Davide Caroli to put on display a selection of photographs documenting his work on the streets staging clever scenes with his miniatures, like the one seen above created in Moscow in 2012 entitled All Alone.
