Basel Week Miami ’15: Os Gemeos // Tiroche Deleon Collection @ Mana Wynwood

Fans of the twins attending Basel Week Miami next week should add visiting the Tiroche Deleon Collection to their itinerary. Sem Titulo (Untitled) is a sculptural installation piece from Os Gemeos that features a giant head mounted on the chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle and brings to life something seen earlier in their Serenade painting. The complex work from the Brazilian street art duo was first seen in a series of Vertigem exhibitions (like at CCBB Brasilia) and now will be on view at Mana Wynwood along with other […]

Goldfish Salvation, Riusuke Fukahori’s second solo show with the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will be opening on November 19th. Featuring his favorite subjects made obvious by the title of the show, the Japanese artist has prepared his signature three-dimensional acrylic and resin paintings of goldfish including his largest work-to-date. Previews: Gil Batle – “Hatched In Prison” @ Ricco/Maresca

On November 5th, Hatched In Prison will open at Ricco/Maresca in New York, a testament to the long road Gil Batle has traveled and where art has taken him. Born and raised in San Francisco to Filipino parents, he has been in and out of five California prisons for eight years over a twenty year period. While incarcerated, the self-taught artist’s drawing ability and eventual tattooing skills shielded him from the murderous gang violence that ran rampant behind bars. Now living on a small island in the Philippines, Batle has […]

Previews: Isaac Cordal – “Urban Inertia” @ C.O.A. Gallery

C.O.A. Gallery in Montreal will be opening a solo show by Isaac Cordal on October 29th. The Spanish artist is currently adding final touches to Urban Inertia, an installation that will continue the public interventions he has been working on around the city in the last few weeks. Cordal is known for his small cement, now resin, sculptures that he places in cracks in the walls, puddles, sidewalks, rooftops, and other nooks and crannies in the urban environment. These small character based installations often symbolize the suicidal spiral of […]

Previews: Ludovic Vernhet (Ludo) – “Duality” @ Castor Gallery

Almost three months after participating in one of Castor Gallery’s group show and releasing a limited edition print with them, Ludovic Vernhet aka Ludo (interviewed) is back in NYC for his solo with the gallery. Titled Duality, the show features new canvas and sculptural works focused on artist’s eternal inspiration source – the duality of life. Taking the Renaissance still life portrait as his basic composition ideal, he created new works that combine natural elements along with man-made, mechanical, and often weaponized parts. Using a slightly different process for this […]

Openings: Dabs Myla – “Before and Further” Popup (Los Angeles)

A couple weeks ago, Dabs Myla opened up an ambitious new exhibition at the Modernica factory property in Los Angeles entitled Before and Further. The title is appropriate as the artistic duo took things to the next level with an immersive installation featuring paintings, sculptures, ceramics, lighting, customized furniture, as well as murals covering the entire facade of the building. Take a look at some photos and make plans to visit before it closes on November 15th. Photo credit: Birdman Photos. Discuss Dabs Myla here.

Showing: RUN – “Man Is God” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

Showing through the end of the month at Howard Griffin Gallery is a new solo from Giacomo Bufarini a.k.a. RUN, a followup to his show with the gallery last year (covered). The Italian artist has made his name painting his iconic characters around the world with their recognizable large heads. For Man Is God, he takes this to the next level with large three-dimensional representations that almost take on a sacred feel like the Easter Island heads. This installation is surrounded by ceremonial banners that cover the walls […]
