Basel Week Miami ’09: SCOPE Fair

If you have been following our coverage, you will know that many of our previews this year for Art Basel Week were from the SCOPE fair. This is because many of the galleries and artists we follow decided to make a showing there. We stopped by to take a look today and snapped some pics to share with you all. This large “finger-cutting” installation from Judith Supine certainly held our attention at the New Image Art booth. Take a look at what else caught our […]

We only had a few hours to run down the aisles, so enjoy this first look at the goodies. We’ll be back soon enough with an in-depth look when we take our time […]

Update: Allison Sommers

Allison Sommers (interviewed) recently completed one of her delightful little sculptures of the mischievous creatures from her paintings – “Little Diedrich.” She writes – “A meat cake, a sheet cake filled with hammy treats cake… so could be heard the siren-song of little Diedrich, waiting in the woods for an unsuspecting traveler to sample his gaily-frosted, heavenly-delicious confectionaries…” Look for more sculptures and paintings in her next solo show at Thinkspace in May of 2010. More views of Deidrich after the jump…

Openings: Kris Kuksi – “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On Saturday night, AM was on hand to experience the surreal sculptures of Kris Kuksi as Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of his latest show the “Beast Anthology.” As seen in our preview of the show, the show looked like a literal monster, but nothing prepared us for seeing the work in person. The physical intricacies of his craftsmanship coupled with the fantastical stories unfolding in every piece held the packed house in a unique trance that we’ve rarely experienced from an art show in New York. […]

Preview: Switcheroo x Flopdoodle Holiday Party

If you are near Pasadena tonight, you might want to stop by the Switcheroo x Flopdoodle Holiday Party put on by Tim Biskup, Amanda Visell, and Michelle Valigura. His love affair with Murakami and KAWS are well documented, but did you know that Kanye West also admires the work of Colin Christian? In a recent video (above) promoting his “Glow in the Dark Tour” book, one of Christian’s signature sculptures can be seen, at the 1:26 & 2:56 marks to be exact. Discuss Colin Christian here.

Preview: Kris Kuksi “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Sometimes a title to the show says it all… “Beast Anthology” – Kris Kuksi is a beast! His behemoth sculptures have us all in awe. Here at AM headquarters, we’ve been looking forward to seeing this one since we visited his last sold out show at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered). The opening is this Saturday (Nov. 21st) from 6-9pm and it couldn’t be sooner. Kris’ signature hyper-detailing and the amazing compositions just boggles our senses. This past August, we teased you with his gorgeous creation for the show: “The Temptation of […]
