Redd Walitzki didn’t have to go to far for her first solo show at Roq la Rue as her studio is mere blocks away from the gallery. When We Break intertwines seemingly vulnerable subjects with nature and small animals, as flowers erupt from the skin and melt into the milky backgrounds. Some manage to fly out of the panel itself. Tonight in Seattle, Winston Wächter Fine Art will be opening a solo show from Zaria Forman, who we featured in an Art Focus article earlier this year. The exhibition holds special meaning for the Brooklyn-based artist, as her exquisite paintings will be shown alongside the photographs of her late mother, Rena Bass Forman. The two of them traveled together to see the natural wonders of the world in places like Greenland, Iceland, Patagonia and India, inspiring Zaria’s own interest in documenting disappearing places. In their second collaboration, artists Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) and Jean Labourdette have created captivating new works for De Amina, which opened at Roq la Rue on May 1st. Hidden meanings and symbolism are used heavily between the two works, with animals playing a heavy role in defusing the messages of consumerism and our culture’s constant need to upgrade. Tomorrow night, the first of May, the Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle will be hosting a new showing from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) and Jean Labourdette entitled De Anima. The exhibition features the duo exploring the environmental, social, and spiritual impact of our technological advances. Last Friday, opening alongside CRG (covered) at Roq La Rue in Seattle was Peter Ferguson’s Fire In The Map Room! Dimly lit interiors and the moments right before dusk are exquisitely detailed in a muted color palette, with a style honed from his many years illustrating children’s books. On April 3rd, Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) opened her latest solo show at Roq la Rue, titled La Danse Macabre, which translates to Dance of Death, a theme originated in the late middle ages to remind us that no one escapes the hand of death. Infusion at Roq la Rue opened on Thursday, March 6th to a packed audience. The show’s goal was to infuse the gallery with talent that had not been seen in the gallery previously.
