Streets: World Roundup (March 12 – March 18)

As always, AM has more street work to share with you in this week’s Streets: World Roundup segment. Leading things off is this sweet new piece from Zilda (interviewed) in Naples that benefits from a great placement integrating a tree (the extra phallic graf helps keep things interesting as well). As always, the thoughtful French street artist draws his own pieces which are often influenced by classic master paintings (like the work of John Spencer-Stanhope Rodham) and translates them into paste ups. See his process […]

Streets: Bumblebee – “Somewhere I’d Rather Bee” (Los Angeles)

The latest mural by Bumblebee, part of his ongoing series highlighting the plight of children affected by homelessness, has gone up in Los Angeles.  Titled Somewhere I’d Rather Bee, it ostensibly depicts a boy playing in the streets, appearing to lounge away the day, just playing with his paper airplane.  However, the reality could be that the boy, laying on the side of the street,  is preoccupied with his imagination, dreaming about a place where his plane could possibly take him, away from his current […]

Streets: El Mac x Augustine Kofie (Los Angeles) – Part II

Last time we saw El Mac and Augustine Kofie (featured) collaborating, they were working on a mural in honor of DASH 2000 (covered), a former member of the UTI (Under The Influence) graffiti crew, who recently passed away due to cancer complications. Now, we finally have a look at the finished wall which now includes lettering and a final inscription by artist Plek, which overall creates a fitting memorial for their friend. The piece sits near the intersection of Vermont and 1st, near the heart of Los […]

Streets: Mark Jenkins – “Living Layers” @ Wunderkammern (Part II)

As you saw in our first teaser article, Mark Jenkins (interviewed) has been busy in Rome working the streets and preparing for his show at Wunderkammern opening this Saturday night, March 17th. This exhibition, Living Layers, will no doubt feature much of the work that has been popping up around the Italian city and leaves us excited to see what the opening holds. Take a look at the other pieces after the jump…

Streets: World Roundup (March 5 – March 11)

Starting off this week’s roundup is this new stencil from Bast seen on the streets of New York. This is the first we have shown you from him since his collaboration with Aiko at the end of last year. Other artists whose walls that caught our attention this week include Paul Insect (UK), M-City (Italy), Cranio (Brazil), Escif (Spain), ESPO x EINE (UK), LUDO (France), Pixel Pancho (UK), Know Hope (New York), and Maya Hayuk (Baltimore). See them all after the jump…

Streets: El Mac – “Verse” Memorial

As a way to pay tribute to those who have passed, artist often paint murals in remembrance of their friends who have fallen along the way. After a recent fitting piece in collaboration with Augustine Kofie (featured) to remember DASH 2000, a former member of the UTI (Under The Influence) graffiti crew, El Mac has now painted one for Marcos “Verse” Vasquez in Mid-City, Los Angeles. If you remember, Mac also collaborated with RETNA (featured) a couple years ago on another memorial mural at Mid City Arts. More photos after the […]

Streets: ROA (Belgium)

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that busy international traveler and prolific street muralist ROA is from Belgium based on so many of his works popping up around the world (most recently in Stockholm). We can finally show you something painted in his home country (for the the generically named Street Art Festival) with again some nice incorporation of architectural elements into the piece (windows used as the perch). Tipped off by Nuart. Discuss ROA here.

Streets: Retna Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

After spending some time with LA artist RETNA (featured) as he put his mark on the iconic Bowery & Houston wall in New York (covered here), AM headed back to see the finishing touches. As you can see, the MSK writer’s calligraphy is getting increasingly complex and is undecipherable for those who aren’t in the know. Luckily for those curious, we have a photo of part of the message he was painting. See this and more photos taken for us by Joe Russo after the jump…

Streets: RETNA x COPE2 (New York)

While in New York painting the iconic wall on the corner Bowery & Houston (covered), RETNA (featured) took some time collaborate with East Coast legend COPE2. Hitting up a wall together in the Bronx, COPE2’s signature bubble tags blended in nicely with RETNA’s calligraphic MSK stylings with what seemed to be matching colors. Check out more photos of the duo in action after the jump…

Streets: Vhils (Shanghai)

As indicated in some teaser shots of Vhils’ street work when he first got to China as well as a preview video posted here, the Portuguese artist has been hard at work preparing for his showing at the 18 Gallery (presented by Magda Danysz) opening March 31st. We now have a more comprehensive look at the murals he has impregnated into the walls of Shanghai with his special technique as part of this exhibition. More photos via Stick2Target after the jump…
