After coming off an impressive exhibition at Lebasse Projects (covered) where he showed his versatility by focusing on sculptural works, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) decided to try something new in his artistic career and go large scale (see in progress pics here). For our summary of walls this week, we have for you as our featured wall – REYES in Detroit. The motor city has become one of the hotspots for street activity recently as the tanking economy has ironically led to more abandoned buildings facilitating the rise of public art. Recently, Cuban American artist Jorge Rodriguez-Guerada was invited to the Alwan 338 festival put together by the Al Riwaq Art Space in Manama (Bahrain). While there, he completed a mural of a traditional Bahraini fisherman ‘Yousif’ using his trademark charcoal technique. Art Focus: Carmichael Collective

This week’s artist we are introducing to you is the Carmichael Collective, (a creative company located in Minneapolis, MN) and their humorous street interventions. Although they have a diverse set of works, including Urban Plant Tags the #LivingTrophy, our Art Focus is on their Bug Memorials. Featuring pimped out funeral paraphernalia for dead insects, the memorials include portraits, flowers, candles, and more.

With the sad passing of Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch aka MCA, tribute walls have been popping up all over the globe. We’ll be covering more of them in the future here on AM, but the first one to draw your attention to is this sick piece from AROE (MSK, Heavy Artillery Crew). Streets: Slinkachu (Belgium)

Over the weekend in Belgium, street miniaturist Slinkachu presented a small show featuring his work in a temporary gallery at Lange Lozanastraat 101b in the 2018 area of the city. While there, he also placed his tiny street installations throughout Antwerpen for residents to discover including a piece featuring a footballer chalking his own field. It looks like the ever witty Mobstr has been busy in and around London recently putting up some new pieces. The street artist hailing from Newcastle is known for verbiage-based pieces that poke fun at his art form as well as challenge the way we view public space. By now, you will have seen photos from the intriguing collaboration between JR (featured) and Jose Parla on the walls of Havana. Parla, with his Cuban roots, seems like the perfect partner in crime for the TED winning French artist as calligraphic stylings of the first meld seamlessly with the stark photos of the second.
