Streets: Blek Le Rat (San Francisco)

While in town for his showing (more on this later) at Weinstein Gallery, legendary street artist Blek Le Rat spent some time working some of his stencil magic in San Francisco. Hitting several locations including the Hastings College of Law, the French artist was able make his mark on the area including conjuring up appearances of his famous rat. While in town for their current solo show at Underdogs Gallery (more on this later), PichiAvo completed a stunning new mural near the Santa Apolónia railway station utilizing their signature palette. Soaring high into the urban landscape, the multi-story mural from the Spanish duo features their signature remix of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures with their love for graffiti. Andrew Schoultz Paints Winchester Skatepark (Las Vegas)

Continuing his longstanding work within skate culture, Andrew Schoultz recently completed a project in Las Vegas earlier this month at the skatepark at the Clark County Winchester Cultural Center. Working with his team, the Los Angeles-based artist painted the ramps, pyramids and other obstacles with his signature imagery including the all-seeing eye. In related news, Schoultz will return to the area on June 2nd when his show at UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum opens. Streets: Escif – ‘Open Borders’ Mural @ Palais de Tokyo (Paris)

From May 4th, Palais de Tokyo in Paris will pay tribute to the history and legacy of the May 1968 events with a intervention by Escif, where he reproduced some of the famous writings from that period of student revolts. His creation completes the project, which was started in 2015 by Greek artist Stelios Faitakis, who realized two murals dedicated to the legacy of the situationist movement and civil unrest of May 1968. Streets: D*Face – “Turn Coat” (Paris)

While in town last week for the opening of his show (covered) at Galerie Itinerrance, D*Face (interviewed) was able to get up with a massive mural in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. For those keeping score, this is the second piece (also see 2017) the British street artist has painted for “Street Art 13” project organized by the gallery. Entitled Turn Coat, the new work features some of D’s signature imagery and touches like the Lichtenstein inspired look and the wings. Photo credit: Spraying Bricks. Discuss D*Face here.

Earlier this month in Belgium, the third iteration of the The Crystal Ship art festival (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in an international roster of artists to create murals and art installations in the coastal city of Ostend. One of the standout walls comes from Sainer (featured) of the Etam Cru entitled Podkarpacie, a painterly piece which appears to be named after a province in Poland.
