Openings: Urban Legends @ L.A. Mart Design Center

Last weekend at the L.A. Mart Design Center, the Urban Legends auction and exhibition opened their doors to the public. With a series of largescale pieces, murals, photographs, and installations, artists around the world like Chor Boogie, Kofie, Mear One, Shark Toof, Cern, Estria, Martha Cooper, Sand One, Herakut, SANER, Estevan Oriol, Eriberto Oriol, Chaz Bojorquez, RETNA, Andrew Hem, and more were invited to put their work on display. Having shown AM readers some outdoor work that was put up as part of Street a.k.a. Outdoor/Streets: “Street a.k.a. Museum” @ Portsmouth Museum of Art – New Hampshire

In yet another example of street art and graffiti’s acceptance and proliferation in fine art institutions across America, the Portsmouth Museum of Art hosts Street a.k.a. Museum, curated by LeBasse Projects’ Beau LeBasse. The exhibition, which opened on May 11 and runs until Sept. 11 features familiar names: Bumblebee, Herakut (fresh off their beautification of Los Angeles), Shark Toof, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, and Andreas von Chrzanowski. Openings: “Outside/In” @ LeBasse Projects

Last night, AM headed out to Culver City for the lone show on our schedule at LeBasse Projects. It was certainly worth the trip as we were greeted by work from a nice selection of artists in the Outside/In group show including Case, Herakut, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, SharkToof and Bumblebee. As a bonus, most of the participants were on hand before they head out to New Hampshire for the second part of the show at the Portsmouth Museum of Art. More opening pics after the jump…

Preview: “LAX/PDX” @ Together Gallery

LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment. Patron After Party (Los Angeles Art Show) @ The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE

To celebrate the kick-off of the L.A. Art Show and showcase the artwork of Shepard Fairey, Mear One, Shark Toof, and Chor Boogie, The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live (in collaboration with LA ART MACHINE) hosted the Patron After Party in a two-story penthouse on the 51st floor of their exclusive and luxurious building.  DJed by Shepard Fairey, the event honored supporters of the L.A. Studio Visit: Eddie Colla, D Young V, and Shark Toof
