Openings: “Outside/In” @ LeBasse Projects

As a bonus, most of the participants were on hand before they head out to New Hampshire for the second part of the show at the Portsmouth Museum of Art. More opening pics after the jump…

LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment. Mr. Shark Toof and Chor Boogie have been especially busy as they also did work for the Patron After Party if your remember (covered). More photos courtesy of Brandon Shigeta after the jump…

Setup: Patron After Party (Los Angeles Art Show)

Tomorrow, January 19th, marks the opening of the annual Los Angeles Art Show. Studio Visit: Eddie Colla, D Young V, and Shark Toof

On occasion of his inclusion in Spoke Art’s Urban Osmosis exhibition (which we previewed last week), the Los Angeles-based Shark Toof made the much-traveled trek north to the Bay Area.  While in the area, Mr. Toof knocked on the doors to the Oakland studio of his friends and occasional mischievous collaborators, Eddie Colla and D Young V to check out the impressive installation piece they were creating for the exhibition.  Consisting of the familiar sight of East Bay Express newspaper boxes (although you normally don’t […]

Preview: “Urban Osmosis” @ Lopo and Space Gallery

It’s been a wonderful run for Spoke Art at Lopo Gallery, but just like 2010, it must come to an end.  Coincidentally, the opening of this final show will be on the ultimate day of the year.  Now-veteran curator Ken Harman presents a show featuring immersive site-specific installations, in three separate rooms, from new and established street and fine art artists.  They include Eddie Colla, Kelly Towles, D Young V, GATS, and the prolific Shark Toof. Ring in your new year surrounded by art and […]

Openings: “Dreams Deferred” @ The Chinese American Museum

Last week, the Chinese American Museum (CAM) in Los Angeles opened their doors to an art show focused on immigration reform. Although the bulk of the problems the Chinese in America have had with this topic has been in the past, it is always important to bring light to some forgotten history as there is much we can learn that we can apply to the controversial topic in the present. Dreams Deferred (teased) featured many compelling pieces from some artists that you will be sure […]

Whether the artists were participating on the legal walls like Primary Flight, Wynwood Walls, Graffiti Gone Global, or just freelancing it, there were certainly many new pieces thrown up for this year’s Art Basel Week Miami. You have already seen us focus in on some work from Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Gaia and Jeff Soto, but check more work in Part I of our overview of the murals. Pics we gathered after the jump…

Openings: Sanrio 50th Anniversary Group Show

Last night at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Sanrio opened the doors to a tremendous 50th Anniversary celebration featuring carnival games, costumed characters, special food booths, limited edition event products from the company, and of course – a themed art group show (curated by JAPAN LA). Taking a cue from their Hello Kitty 35th birthday celebration last year (covered), the Japanese company chose a venue that could better accommodate the fanaticism that some have come associate with the brand’s ubiquitous kawaii characters. Although we […]
