Shepard Fairey Arrested In Los Angeles

News broke yesterday that Shepard Fairey (featured) was arrested in Los Angeles as he returned from Europe where he just opened an exhibition at the CAC Malaga (more on this later). He was charged with a felony after he allegedly vandalized Detroit properties while in town for his showing at the Library Street Collective (covered). As Urban Nation continues their strong public arts program with their 8th phase (Project M/8) entitled FREEDOM, our attention is drawn back to Berlin to see what a new set of artists have to offer. Previews: Shepard Fairey – “Your Eyes Here” @ CAC Malaga

After leaving a memorable mark in Malaga, Spain in 2013, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be returning to the CAC Malaga for an exhibition opening on June 26th. Your Eyes Here from Shep will be shown alongside a solo with D*Face who painted the two towers with him back when they were in town last. Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Printed Matters” @ Library Street Collective

Opening last month and showing through the middle of August is Shepard Fairey’s (featured) solo at the Library Street Collective in Detroit. Entitled Printed Matters, the exhibition featured a diverse collection of the Los Angeles-based artist’s distinctive work across all mediums. Streets: Shepard Fairey (Detroit)

As we reported last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) was well on his way to completing his tallest mural to date standing at 180′ x 60′. Featuring a simple but iconic image and pattern, the massive piece will be Shep’s gift to Detroit along with some smaller murals in the Belt series of permanent pieces for the Library Street Collective, where he has solo currently showing (more on this later). As mentioned, this Friday night, May 22nd, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening his solo entitled Printed Matters at Library Street Collective in Detroit. As you can see from the photos here, Mr. Obey has already made his way to the Motor City where he is hard at work putting the finishing touches on pieces for the exhibition. Releases: Shepard Fairey x Cleon Peterson – “Pattern of Corruption” Prints

Tomorrow, January 27th, at a random time between 10 am and 12 noon PST, a some collaborative prints will be released between Shepard Fairey and Cleon Peterson. Featuring the Pattern of Corruption used in one of their joint murals in Miami’s Wynwood district (covered), painted during  Basel Week Miami, the striking imagery will be released in 3 different pairs of colorways –  Black/White, Gold/Black and Blue/White.
