Spanish “wall painter” Aryz (pronounced ar-eez), opened his 1st US solo show last Friday at Fifty24SF in San Francisco. Over the weekend, the Known Gallery exhibited the work of artist Sage Vaughn (featured) in an exhibit titled Last Year. Basel Week Miami ’10 – David Kordansky Gallery

One of the galleries with the best stable of “emerging” artists at Art Basel Miami Beach was David Kordansky Gallery.  The Culver City, CA stalwart represented Los Angeles’ growing art scene to the fullest with fantastic pieces by such talked-about artists as Elad Lassry, Aaron Curry, and Kathryn Andrews.  Its booth was so hot that they reportedly sold-out their entire show.  See the pieces they exhibited after the jump…

Preview: “Modern Life: Edward Hopper and His Time” @ Whitney Museum

The Whitney Museum will be holding an exhibition to feature Edward Hopper and many of his contemporary peers from 1900-1940. Focusing on this period of time when massive changes were occurring in America, artists such as Ed captured the sweeping transformation across the nation in both rural and urban areas. In case you’re wondering who else is a fan, maybe you’ll remember Banksy taking a page out of Hopper’s famous “Night Hawks” (here). This show opens October 28th. Check out a preview after the jump.

Fame Fest ’10: Sam3

  As the September opening of this year’s Fame Festival (our coverage) draws closer, another artist has left his imprint on the city walls. Master of the shadows, Madrid-based Sam3, has made his way over to Grottaglie after working with Blu & Os Gemeos on a project in Lisbon. Look at this beautiful and delicate piece he threw up, “balanced” perfectly on a ladder. Releases: Luke Chueh – “Black in White” Figure

Preview / Installation: Mike Stilkey “Reminiscent” @ Hurley Space Gallery

The brand spanking new Hurley )( Space Gallery opens its doors this weekend in Costa Mesa, Ca. Long time supporters of the arts, Hurley have appointed Annie Adjchavanich, past director of Billy Shire Fine Arts, as the gallery’s curator.
