Tomorrow night (June 1st) in Los Angeles, Thinkspace will be opening a special exhibition from two street artists known to work on the miniature scale. Entitled Trash Talk, the joint exhibition will feature work from both Beligum’s Jaune and UK-based Slinkachu. The British artist’s work walks the line between old and new, influenced by Dadaist aesthetics while at the same time tackling more modern issues like the effects of social media. Last weekend in Detroit, imagery from REVOK’s Spirograph & Tape Loops series enveloped a series of musical performances creating a truly immersive experience for the audience. This last weekend, the hauntingly beautiful Aron Wiesenfeld show at Arcadia Contemporary closed its two week run. Coming up next month, Hashimoto Contemporary’s New York space will be hosting a solo showing from Erik Jones entitled Country. Judging from the work-in-progress photos from his studio outside of Chicago, the new body of work will continue his recent series of surreal portraits that treat the extremities and appendages like colorful Gumby-like extensions of the body. A couple weekends ago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (with support from Library Street Collective) opened a new show from art superstar KAWS. Entitled ALONE AGAIN, the exhibition features five large scale companion sculptures and three paintings displayed on a special mural painted by the Brooklyn-based artist.
