Coachella’s Program of International Artist Installations

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, or more popularly referred to as Coachella, is known primarily for its music (and for some, the fashion choices of its guests). Festival-goers discuss and pore over the list of bands, DJs, singers, and other stage acts in determining how good Coachella will or will not be. However, almost as important in the actual experience of the Coachella weekend is the larger than life visual art and installations. This year’s new and returning featured artists include Sofia Enriquez (paisley sculptures), […]

Provoking thought as well as eliciting laughs with dark humor, Epp’s paintings feature strange interactions with objects and references to brands and pop culture, all created through process that includes drawing, photoshop, and painting on canvas. Streets: Nuart Aberdeen 2019 (Part I)

Easter weekend marked the official launch of the third consecutive Nuart Aberdeen. From the media launch yesterday, civic reception at the city hall, sold-out Q&A session with legendary Scottish playwright and artist, John Byrne, the festival’s programme is jam-packed with talks, presentations, debates, and screenings. But for many, the most important part of this annual event is the creation of public artworks through the city, which once again lured a number of locals to get out and wander around their hometown in search for new […]

Showing through last weekend, Ceci n’est pas un dessin, c’est une situation at Galerie Julien Cadet in Paris featured the instantly recognizable work of James Jarvis (interviewed). For an artist where drawing plays such a big role in his practice, the exhibition presented a further evolution of his work where his drawings were featured as the object – in flat sculptural form. Take a look at more photos from the show below… Photo credit: @thomas.demeester, @jeromeams, @adrianov28, the artist, and the gallery Discuss James Jarvis here.

After introducing Julio Anaya Cabanding’s work at a group exhibition (covered) earlier this year in Montreal, curator Sasha Bogojev will be presenting the debut solo show (opening on April 27th) from the Spanish artist in Italy. Hosted by Tales Of Art Gallery in Imola and organized in partnership with Musei Civici di Imola, Unstolen will feature Cabanding’s studio work which mirror the trompe-l’oeil remakes of classic old-masters that he places on the streets. Some of this public art will be seen in photographs at the exhibition alongside […]

The  highlight of the show though has the be the room with a series of large scale paintings, prime examples of Jean’s fantastical artistic vision and unparalleled imagination. Showing: Revok – “depersonalization-derealization” @ Library Street Collective

Last weekend in Detroit, Revok opened his latest solo show at Library Street Collective featuring selections from three distinctive bodies of work – his Instrument Exercises, Tape Loop Paintings, and Spirographs – along with some self portraits. Entitled depersonalization-derealization, the exhibition makes use of his graffiti roots but repurposed, oftentimes with custom tools for creating large scale abstract canvases. The title refers to a type of dissociative disorder, something that Revok experiences with the constant numbing onslaught of horrific news and media overstimulation. He further states – “I think the work […]

Showing: Alex Chinneck – “A sprinkle of night and a spoonful of light”

For this year’s Milan Design Week, Alex Chinneck has unveiled another one of his impossible architectural creations – sort of a followup to something he built last year in his native England (covered). Entitled A sprinkle of night and a spoonful of light, the new sculptural intervention that involves the front of an entire building is his most ambitious project to date. Produced in partnership with IQOS, the new seventeen meter wide piece unzips the side of the facade, leading to an illusion of the whole structure is coming apart. […]
