Thursday night in Tokyo, Hajime Sorayama took his signature fembots to the next level with a 39-foot-tall sculpture that took center stage for Dior’s pre-fall 2019 menswear show, towering over the laser-lit catwalk. Creative director Kim Jones’ second collection for the European luxury goods company follows in the artistic footsteps of his debut effort where he tapped KAWS to create a 32-foot-tall statue made of flowers for the Spring/Summer 2019 campaign. No less stunning, Sorayama’s contribution was a 20,000 pound representation of the “idealized female figure in robotic form, a […]

Currently at David Zwirner’s uptown location in New York (34 East 69th Street), Lisa Yuskavage has a solo show on view featuring a series of eight new works. Showing in association with a survey of small-scale paintings from the American artist in the gallery’s Chelsea location, New Paintings features portraits of mostly couples rendered in her hedonistic style and with her characteristic emotive use of color. The townhouse space was a great venue choice as it is the perfect setting for the domestic and intimate scenes that populate Yuskavage’s new pieces. […]

Previews: Tavar Zawacki – “SHAPESHIFTING” @ Wunderkammern (Milan)

On November 21st, Wunderkammern’s Milan space will be hosting new show from Tavar Zawacki entitled SHAPESHIFTING. The American artist, who previously guarded his anonymity zealously, produced work prolifically on the streets for years as ABOVE (interviewed), hidden behind his arrow motif. Creating pieces now under his real name has given Zawacki a sense of freedom to explore new directions, something that can be seen in the more dimensional aspect of this exhibition as well as in how he is moving away from his signature arrow (although it does make […]
