Recap / Videos: POW! WOW! Rotterdam

Last month, another POW! WOW! wrapped up in Rotterdam, their first event in Europe. POW! WOW! Rotterdam featured live music and a special exhibition in the HAKA building, but of course our focus is on the street art that was created at Keilewerf 1 and 2, an area that used to be an industrial part of the city. Releases: YESNIK – “Utopia” Print

This Friday (October 26), YESNIK will be releasing a rare print, his first in four years. Entitled Utopia, the 7 color screenprint will have a run of 115, measure 19 x 22 inches, come signed, numbered, stamped and feature one his collage-like structures inspired by his time spent with the textures and colors of the Central California. Previews: Andrew Schoultz – “Full Circle” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Tonight (October 25th) in New York, Joshua Liner Gallery will be opening their second solo show with Andrew Schoultz. Full Circle includes works on paper, paintings, and new mixed media American flags set against a backdrop of a hand painted transformed space. Using familiar motifs like colorful concentric circles, the all seeing eye, brick structures, clouds, serpents, castles, and the aforementioned flag, the Los Angeles-based artist continues to weave a troubling and timely commentary on the social-political climate and the economics of globalism & capitalism. Amsterdam’s KochXBos gallery recently opened a solo exhibition by local art hero, Dadara. Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries” @ Quint Gallery

On view through November 10th at Quint Gallery in La Jolla, Kelsey Brookes’  new show sees him take his work in a more dimensional direction. Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries continues the locally-based artist’s longstanding practice of looking to nature and science for inspiration. The painted freestanding and wall sculptures deal with viruses and the Fibonacci sequence, and feature Brookes’ signature psychedelic and colorful patterns. Making the move up to Skarstedt Gallery, KAWS, whose work recently breached the $1 million mark at auction, has a show opening in New York on November 8th entitled GONE.
