Showing: Alicia McCarthy & Group Show @ V1 Gallery

For her second showcase with V1 which opened recently in Copenhagen, Alicia McCarthy created a fresh body of work featuring her iconic waving patterns and rainbow-like creations. Painted mostly on found and repurposed objects or faded paper sheets, these hypnotic creations are done using a variety of uncommon art techniques. Often leaving an obvious or hidden personal mark or note, the Mission School stalwart makes unorthodox, personal pieces that expresses her raw urge to create as it relates to her experiences. McCarthy also used this opportunity […]

Previews: Soey Milk – “Inflorescence” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On September 8th, Soey Milk’s second solo show (see 2015) with Corey Helford Gallery opens in Los Angeles. Collectively entitled Inflorescence, the vibrant new body of work features over 20 paintings and drawings (which served as studies for the paintings). The new pieces serve as markers for significant moments in Milk’s life, made all the more personal with her friends as source material (as well as what looks to be some self-portraits). The exhibition also sees the locally-based artist continue to explore the use of embedded objects as a medium, with […]

It’s fair to say that the days of big murals and street art festivals producing them are somewhat becoming things of past, and both the mainstream and urban art world are looking for another type of work that will fill that spot. With that said, we’re excited to share with you the lineup of 2018 Nuart Festival in Stavanger, which seems to be continuing their journey towards the new frontiers they’ve introduced last year. Streets – Upfest (2018) Bristol

Upfest returned to celebrate its 10th anniversary recently with approximately 350 artists from across the globe leaving their mark on the streets of Bristol. A central theme across the whole weekend was the 100 years which have passed since some women first got the right to vote in the UK. For example, Jody Thomas‘ gold-masked figure takes the meek and victimized Little Red Riding Hood from Victorian fairytales and recasts her as someone who is both eminently capable and confidently self-assured. The festival also saw The London Police bring their […]
