Last night, AM attended the private viewing of Ron English (featured), latest exhibition “Status Factory”. With the sponsorship of Opera Gallery, the pop-up exhibition was held in an extravagant triplex retail space in the heart of New York’s Soho district. An inspirational show from Matt Small (interviewed) opened last night at Black Rat Projects in London. Not only was the artwork stunning, like the showstopper seen above, the subjects of Matt’s paintings were students from a project he participated in earlier this year where he conducted workshops in Zambia (covered). “That I May See” featured portraits using the the UK artist’s unique vibrant and colorful swirl technique with 40% of the proceeds going to the Robert Shitima School from the aforementioned Zambia project. Yesterday, AM attended the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s epic retrospective at New York’s Asia Society. With anticipation building since attending his “Open Studio” session a few weeks prior, we didn’t know what more to expect from Nara and YNG/graf aside from the artwork being created by the artist and the cool construction of the “Home” installation. After checking out opening night though, it’s pretty obvious the expansive & comprehensive retrospective put together by curators Miwako Tezuka & Melissa Chiu will delight fans old and new. […]

Preview: Clayton Brothers – “Inside Out” @ Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

As we mentioned last summer, the Clayton Brothers are set to open a fantastic museum show at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) over in Wisconsin this weekend. The brotherly duo will unveil twenty six paintings and three mixed media installations containing their wild color combos and electric characters. Check out a preview after the jump.

This Saturday, Sept 11th, “Sweet Streets II” is set to open at the Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra.
