Amy Ross recently opened what sounds to be a deeply personal show. “Brother Wolf”, in Boston at the Steven Zevitas Gallery. Roa shows in Cologne & Paris

Up-and-coming Belgium-based street artist Roa had a show open last weekend (running until March 13th) in Germany at the ArtyFarty Gallery. As you can see in the picture above, he also found time to get up some pieces in and around the streets of Cologne. For one 4-day weekend, the spectacular Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood was the site of the first ever Art Los Angeles Contemporary, which took place January 28-31. Almost every top gallery in Los Angeles and a few from around the world participated in the event, showing new works from emerging to internationally-recognized blue chip artists. AM swung by David Choe’s satellite studio for a visit as the artist was preparing for his upcoming show at FIFTY24SF. Choe, who lives and works in New York City, has deep roots with both Los Angeles and the Bay Area and has maintained a makeshift studio a half hour south of San Francisco for the past two years. A video came out recently that walks through the Doze Green show (covered) that is currently showing at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. Monotonous documentary lady voice notwithstanding, the video highlights the otherworldly and stylized work from the old school street artist, especially the vibrancy of his color pieces. Canadian artist Sarah Joncas will be opening a show next month (February 12th) in Seattle at the Roq La Rue Gallery. It sounds like her new body of work will deal with the idea of shadows, either imprinted onto the character or created by the character themselves and will be appropriately named “Shadow Play”. Famed French street artist Jef Aerosol is set to open his debut New York solo show “All Shook Up” tonight at Ad Hoc Art. Look for brand new stenciled works as well as classic pieces on paper, wood, and found objects. The two pieces are beautiful although disturbing as they feature shoemakers, but also what appear to be children – bringing up thoughts of child labor (one of them seen smoking).
